riser pads dnt really do much imo, they make ur trucks a little higher and are supposed to help prevent shock and preasure cracks

Risers go between the truck baseplate the deck itself. Basically, they provide a little more clearance between the skater's wheels and the deck to help prevent "wheel bite" (where the wheel "bites" into the deck on a turn, for example). They probably aren't necessary with alot of today's street skaters with smaller wheels, but are a good idea for larger more "old school" boards with taller wheels. Also, like Element said, they can reduce shock and pressure cracks.

Well, I street skate, and I get wheel burn a LOT. They can also help prevent most cases of wheel burn. A set of risers are only about $3.00 CCS mags.
