Vans last long. You can use shoe goo to create a protective layer over the material so you dont slide with your sole. I've got globes at the moment. They're alright, not that poo but not that good either but they be cheap at where I buy em. $50. aww yee

ive got a pair of globe checkers. They holding up real nice but I slide my foot up with the part of my foot where the laces join. And it shredded the hell outa them. Other than that theyre pretty nice.

Vans really aren't that durable, at all. But there's really no way to ollie and eventually not rip your shoes. The only way you can ollie is sliding your front foot up on the grip tape. Shoe goo helps for a while though....http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=shoe+goo&btnG=Search+Froogle

go to a place lk wal mart and go to where they sell the shoes, but go to where you buy more/extra laces and there should be tubes of shoe goo
or go to a skateshop
you can use hot glue it works the same and dries faster

I would look into Globe, IPath, or Lakai. Good stuff.
