The weight of your first set-up doesn't matter cause since your new you'll be able to adjust and become used to it. Only after a while of skating the same set-up then switching takes a toll and you'll be able to notice the difference.

the average skateboard is almost 5 pounds. it doens't really matter too much tho, the differences between products really isn't that much and you'll adjust to whatever it is. lighter isn't necessarily always better, independant trucks are one of the heaviest trucks on the market, but they're also one of the best. theres a lot more factors that come into making a good skateboard than just weight; such as shape, concave, materials, design, and personal preference. and actually weight means almost nothing when determining what product to buy. but utility board supply has a weight meter on their complete builder which is kinda fun to fool around with http://www.utilityboardsupply.com/c_complete.asp

also i'm pretty sure "weighty" isn't a word.

I live in the UAE, and i need a complete skateboard, it is too expensive here, and if i wanna ship it from the US, it will cost 150$ for ten pounds, that is the price of a complete skate...

Edward: you said a skate is about 5 pounds, are you talking about an element skateboard, coz i heard element is not heavy at all.(featherlight technology) http://www.elementskateboards.com/technologies/.
