I remember reading some advice in a post in RR, saying that its better for beginners to skate at sidewalks becuz skateparks are full of pros and need entrance fees. but there's a skatepark near my house and its free and always empty in the morning and afternoon. should I skate there and use the vert ramps??

You should skate anywhere and everywhere. Being a well rounded skater means skating all terrain whether it be street, parks, pools, whatever. Get on out to the park and enjoy yourself.

You are so right. What better for a beginer than something that was designed for skating.

I'm not so positive. Here's the simple rule: If you can watch everyone and not cut them off or get in the way, and make good use of the obstacles, than you CAN skate there. Also, if there is less than 10 people, just go for it. If it is packed and you just get in the way, then keep skating the street until you can make the park. But I guess that is more local advice for me, it may be different where you are, just my 2 cents.

Thanx for the advice guys... I think its better for me to skate at skateparks since there is 0 people in the morning and afternoon and about 10 in the evening.

hell yeah you can go to the park just learn the system of checking if anyone else is going first
and you said you want to skate the 1/2 pipe first thing is to learn to knee slide
fair enough

I pretty much learned to skate in a skatepark. If you skate there for a couple days, you'd have more balance when skating.

I think you should totally go to the skatepark. Go with some buddys and improve together, and/or hook up with people at the park who are learning, too. I will suggest, as others have responded to you here, to be aware of what others are doing, so as not to accidentally get in someone's way.
Dr_Skate speaks words of wisdom: if you're gonna skate the half pipe, learn to knee slide (with pads, of course). It will make bailing a lot easier on your body once you learn to fall, and take some fear away as you improve on the ramp.
