Hey i just found this forum and i checked it out and i have one word..

I'v been looking for a forum full of skaters

Ok back to the question

How am i doing?

I'v been skating for 2 weeks
and sadly i cant ollie
I can manual pretty good cause i have good balance
I dont know why i cant ollie yet?
Should i stop?
I can't get the tail to lift ffs

If some one could help me out that'd be good :);)

it just takes time to ollie and learn new tricks. depending on how fast of a learer u are... i landed the ollie in about a week. maybe a little less.

Wow! a week thats good

You must be a fast learner?
Any tips for me?

And how did you learn it so fast?

a week isnt that bad if you really concentrate. try to really think about the physics of what youre body is trying to do... i learned to ollie in about a week too.

i learned them stationary though. stationary ollies are a lot easier to do than rolling ones, and if youre new to skating, i recommend learning them first as they give your 'skate muscles' a chance to develop and adapt to a new sport. if you start off your first day skating and trying to do rolling ollies, chances are youre going to fall a lot and hurt yourself. Your skate muscles simply arent strong enough to adjust your body weight quickly enough (therefore you lose balance and crash).

Start off stationary and put your front wheels in a pavement gap or something to keep the board from rolling. Olling is about timing and confidence. If you think about the board slipping out from under you, it will. The best advice I can give that really helped me out is to 'trust your tail'! When you smack the tail down during an ollie, its momentarily nailing that board in place for you. So if like I was, youre afraid to kick the tail down hard thinking the board is going to shoot out, it wont. Kicking the tail down hard is only going to help keep the board in place better. Make sure though that you kick it straight down and not to the side, and also make sure your body weight is centered. Practice just standing upright on the board. Thats really the key to all skating tricks.. keep your body at a 90 degree angle with the surface.

My second piece of advice for the ollie is to make sure and snap the kicking foot. Dont just kick the tail down, you have to snap it back up once the tail strikes the pavement. Once youve got the stationary ollie down pat and youve confident with it, start with rolling ollies at slow speed.

good luck and dont worry about other skaters giving you shit for not doing rolling ollies first. skating is supposed to be non competitive and fun.

A deep message for your 2nd post, nice

Really helpfull i think stationery ollies might be a good way to start out but i thought maybe if i just started out moving i wouldnt get into a habit of standing there and waiting for the board to slow down and then ollie.

But i think if you start stationery you could work ur way up going faster and faster.

I'll try it man!
This weekend was crazy!!!!

I practiced soooooo much
3 hours on saturday
3 hours on sunday
5 hours today! (Columbus Day; no school ) :)

think i'm starting to get this down but i'm having issues!
I can get the board to go vertical when i kick it but the problem is that when i slide my foot up i think i slide it back down to where it was when i started.

I'm trying to work on it but i dont know. my neighbor can ollie like really high and he's been skating for 2 years

He told me he cant really tell what i'm doing wrong as for him it took 7 months to perfect the ollie.. but he could start lifting the tail up on his first week!

I'll be practicing tomrrow after school for 3-4 hours on ollies hopefully this week will be good cuz last 2 weeks i practiced like 2 hours a week and now it's like 4-5 hours a day lol

Big change

After i watched the movie grind again on friday it's making me wanna like skate so bad :)

yea you probably should learn ollies stationary i learned them moving, but it took 2 months. well that was 4th grade, wen i tried skating for three months, then quit.

most everyone i know learned them stationary, so its not a bad thing to do so.

i was gonna say something, but know i forgot.
im probably gonna wake up and 4 in the morning and be like "o sh*t that was what i was gonna say...zzzzzzzz".

talking about sleep, its about time i got some. good night

EDIT: i remember one of the things i was gonna ask.

whats gonna happen to your name once you've been skating for a few years?

if the board is going vertical when you ollie its because youre kick foot is lagging. You have to SNAP that kicking foot back up once the tail hits the pavement. its easy to describe, but kinda takes practice in real life. Just keep practicing the snap.

also, i know every "how-to" ollie video describes how to work your front foot during an ollie, but dont bother worrying about that. for me atleast, when i do ollies, my front foot moves up the board without me even thinking about it. If your timing is right, you shouldnt even have to think about that front foot.

and one last thing with foot position... youll find that the board will be a lot more stable if you stick the ball of your back foot on the center of the tail sticking half way off the board, and rotated inwards about 20 degrees or so. your front foot should be pointed slightly outwards and located about one foot width past the center of the board. try that and see if it helps.

um. hard to say what ur doing wrong. but tell u the truth i didnt learn how to ollie first i learned how to nollie shove-it then learned to ollie but i learned both of those in the first week, then i moved on to landing heelflips and fakie heels then boardslides 2-3 weeks after so iunno what ur issues are man no one taught me stuff and i learned it all moving.. moving i found was easier. but try to keep your front foot more closer to the bolts but not 2 close like maybe in the middle and your back foot on the tail then just push down on ur tail then move ur front foot up all in one motion maybe that will work i dont know ill try to find a video on how to ollie for u if i get the chance but gl with the ollien bro

Thanks man i'm hoping to see that video if you find one :)
How did you learn how to nollie and pop shove it before an ollie??
I mean to pop shove it you need to lift the board which you have to ollie to do. my friend is landing kickflips now on his 2 month of skating so doing heelflips on the 2nd week of skating for you is just freakin awesome!!
Nice dude!
Thanks again!

Thanks..I think.. If it takes me one year damit it man i better not quit!!
Main goal for me is to not give up cuz it's too much fun lol

Hmm
I guess so..
Today when i skated i thought it was my front foot cuz i video taped my self and saw that when i bring my front foot up i'm bringing it back down again!!
But i'm gonna keep working on my back foot thanks
PS: You think when the board hits the pavement right in that moment i should try bringing my knees to my chest? cuz like every how to ollie video or tip says that :S

acually now that i think about it it wasnt even a week for me to learn them stationary. prolly a whole week to learn them moving. i can ollie pretty high now moving. if u can dont even try stationary. its just harder to learn them moving then

to do the ollie u must pop the tail down real hard to get a good pop and once u pop, jump and sorta lean forward. try it standing still. dont give up with it if u dont land it, keep trying dont quit. trust me im going through the same thing with varial heels

That mikester is a fraud. Just like markalcalde. Sorry if this did not help. But here is the helping part.

1) Push at a comfortable speed, remember the faster you go the better the pop.

2) Place your front foot near the middle of your board, about two inches under your front bolts. Put the ball of your back foot on the tail.

3) Squat, so you can spring yourself up.

4) Kick your back foot down so you can pop as you jump up, your front foot should rub upward on your griptape.

5) Make sure you tuck your knees to your chest, picking up your back foot as well to level the board at a good height. REMEMBER you are jumping forward.

6) Then come down comfortably, both feet on the board. It will look better if both your feet are over the bolts as well as lessen the stress of impact

7) Finally bend your legs as you touch down to give it that smooth style and roll away with a HUGE grin on your face.
