I've been skating for three months now. What do I have to show for it? Almost nothing. I thought I was ollieing but the back wheels don't even leave the ground. Despite trying manuals for hours on end, I still can't hold it for more than a second. When I try to pop shoveit, the board flies 10 feet in front of me. Even cruising around town, I still feel wobbly and weird on the board and can't get that much speed. I'm pretty bummed out...am I just approaching the whole thing wrong or are some people just not cut out for it?

Don't stress it bro. Too many skater's these day's worry about 'am I good for my age?', 'how am I doing', 'my friend has been skating for a month and he is better than me!', etc., they're missing the whole point of skating. It's to have fun. You're competing with abosolutely no one.

I do think you're approaching skateboarding the wrong way. Don't think of skating as a stressful job, think of it as a way to relax and just have fun. Who cares if you can ollie, manual a block, pop shoveit a 6 set. No one, besides the little punks who treat skating as a literal competetion. You will be able to get your back trucks off the ground, you will be able to manual for a good length of time, and you will be able to shove it. I sound gay saying this, but just believe in yourself. Mellow out. And as far as I know, me and you won't be going pro in our life times, so why not just enjoy the time we have skating on this planet and just have a blast.

the only people not meant for skating are people with no legs or very overly weight fat people.

unless you fall in that category then id say you just need practice

skate every day for atleast a hour

if u can try skating for about 3 hours a day. just trying stuff

hey man, don't worry about showing anything to anyone. I hope to be taking this advice for myself also. I decided to try out skating a week or two ago when I asked my friend to let me borrow his board. I'm 21 and kind of overweight so I felt kind of weird trying to skate, but after a few times just pushing I think I found a new passion.

Since then I feel like I've been getting better everyday. Been trying to skate at least an hour a day. Even though I've fallen off pretty hard attempting to manual, it feels so good and I wanna try more to get better. Recently I've been attempting to ollie and so far the trucks on the back side of the board are barely lifting off, but i feel progress and i feel good.

Anyways, just chill and do it for yourself. If you don't enjoy it, just chill for a while and go back to it later on. You started skating for a reason, just keep practicing and practicing. We'll get better man! We Will!

I know exactly ur problem im a noob skater too its just the intimidation and the way u are practising.

if u want to learn a flatland move the first u got to do is to get comfortable with air so just go on ur sktateboard on ur bed and with ur skate board jump off with the board under ur feet

then u got to practise the steps so the sliding popping etc... after u get it try it on ground i suggest outside were the shadow is.so when u do it u can see the wheel go off then practice getting higher and higher

like 3 or 2 months ago i couldnt ollie but then after i started skating with my friend he told me waht i was doing wrong and so i loved skating after that. so yea its all practice. im still trying to get a kickflip and a shove it but i never give up. my motto is JUST GO FOR IT DONT BE AFRAID OF WHAT OTHER PEOPLE SAY THEY MIGHT REGRET WHAT THEY SAY LATER ON. i mean thats how people get sponsered sometimes because they love skateboarding which is there passion.

ive been skating for a total of 5 years, but believe me, i had a VERY rough start. basically all the kids in the neighborhood(at least 3 years older than me) had started skating, and i of course wanted to follow them. i was like 8 or 9 at the time, and one of them let me borrow a board for a pretty large amount of time, probably a year or so, but was a dick about it, and hes like, it's a chad timtim aws, and i had no idea what that was. so basically its me skating in my sandals while they are all skating flatbars and whatnot, and of course they dont wanna get involved with me, so im trying like manuals along the sidewalk at will, and anyway that lasted about a year. then i finally got a board, a tony hawk birdhouse, and i had to make that last a year, i think i might have learned a shove it by then, and then some kids started to quit for counterstrike(dont ask me why) and the one kid that lives right by me kept skating, and we started skating together, and i learned a kickflip, and finally, after 2 years, i started actually skating and learning stuff.
