What do you think of my piano playing?

Hey guys, I just uploaded a video of myself playing greenday’s “holiday” on the piano on Youtube. I haven’t taken lessons since I was 10 so I’m a little out of practice. Plus my piano’s 100 years old so it sounds out of tune but besides that I have no other excuses. :P So, what do you think of it?

I've been playing piano for 11 years, so I guess I'm pretty good.
I hate Greenday and basically any 'not original' score.
You need to work on your left hand the most. In this song, it's particularly keeping the beat, the right hand obviously the melody.
Your hands are way to tense too. Keep your shoulders and everything else besides your fingers loose. Practice slow with your metronome, and then move up because clearly, you're accuracy is not really good on such a simple piece. (No offence) If you want to be good at piano, I advise you to practice with seperate hands first, like Fantasie Impromtu, a piece I learned when I was around 13. The l.h. is playing 7 notes while the r.h. is playing 10; it won't be even. Lastly, clear up your pedaling, it's creating a 'blurry' sound because you're not changing correctly.
You're pretty good, keep it up and enjoy it while you can.

Thanks for the tips. :) I've been playing since i was 8, ( I'm 13 now). I didn’t learn this song with sheet music. My brother showed me the cords and I did the melody by ear. So there is a lot I still need to work on.

I know about my pedaling I was just so frustrated because I kept making mistakes and having to start video taping over again. it might just be the video messing up the Audio but what ever. :P I know my left hand was to tense. It was because my middle finger kept popping up oddly if I didn’t, but once I get to practicing again I will fix that. My mom hates me playing the piano she says it “gives her a headache” (so mom, how do you like “fur Elise” “it gives me a headache!” thanks for the complement ma’)

Since she hates me playing I can’t practice that often. Plus five keys on my piano are broken so I can’t play many of the songs on it. Oh well…guess I have to wait until I get my new 88-key weighted keyboard with damper peddle until Christmas. :P

I know what you mean. I started taking lessons when I was eight (mostly because my moms push me into doing so) so I didn’t take it seriously. Then when my piano teacher moved away that’s when I really started to want to learn. (Ironic, huh?) Lucky my brother kept on taking lessons so now he’s really good. He’s giving me “lessons” now, but until I get a good piano, he can’t teach me anything new.

I’m not going out to be the best, I just like it as a hobby, something I’m good at, something I enjoy doing. Like skateboarding (although I’m a noobie skateboarder as well.:P)

I used to play piano when i was around 8 too. I did for a few years then quit cause i didn't practise enough and my teacher was pretty strict. I got upto grade 3 so i wasn't too bad. I could some pretty good stuff. Theres a big history of pianists in my family. My grandad played the organ and piano and so did my mum. I always play it house parties for a laugh if they have one. Usually 'The Snowman' haha.

Pretty good stuff though, you have 'pianists fingers'. All i saw wrong was your timing, but good job.

Good news, I'm getting a new keyboard! yay! I'm getting the FP-2 roland so I can't wait. :) it's gonna sound alot better plus, I can upload me playing more green day. :)

My piano is well over a 100 years old, too. It was the school's piano. They were going to throw it away and my grandfather bought it for $5 and gave it to my mother. A LONG time ago. It's very out of tune. Some of the keys play the wrong notes, some keys are really weak, some don't make any sound, some don't even go down, and one of the black keys isn't even attached anymore. And one of the two pedals is permanently down.

My mother plays the piano every Sunday and Wednesday at the church. She can play some really amazing stuff, but she admitted that she doesn't know anything about keys or music theory.

Yay, I got my new keyboard two days ago. :) The keyboard sounds a lot better. The only thing now is that my camera (Sony handycam lol) has horrible sound but besides that it’s a lot better then my last piano. :P I just uploaded a new video of mine, heres a link
