So I'm sitting on the porch, enjoying a ciggy and the latest Transworld, when I keep noticing that Pro skaters pop the caps of there bearings? WHY?
Does it increase speed? Do they stay cleaner? What's the deal...

Do you mean they take out their bearing shields? No, doing this does not speed up your bearings, it just ruins them faster.

Okay, that didn't help in the least. The only thread I found talked about putting bearing's in backwards, which wouldn't effect the board anyways. The only explanations that were given was,
1. They fall off, and don't put new ones in.
2. So they don't show another companies brand.

In Transworld it lists their bearings, they specifically pop the caps off.

It seems to me that it would chuck dirt out with the bearings not holding gunk underneath the shield. But perhaps your right.

Does anyone have a definative answer?

Popwar, dont be a dick.
I'm not too sure man. I think it may speed them up a bit because its less friction if the sheild gets bent or something. I know i have popped sheilds before and it made the bearings 5x's better. Could be just because I had some shitty bearings, but I'm not too sure. Hope you get some answers.

Thanks man. I might try it on an on set of bearings this spring.

Btw, Rochester is a beautiful place. I used to live in NY myself, Greenville, but moved here a few years ago.

they would be fast but they would get dirty really fast if you skate street.

^Yeah, just makes them louder. If its the buyers guide mag, It says why they do it under the "customize your setup" part.
