lately I've been classic, like Beethoven and Mozart. I find it pretty relaxing, and even when I skate it makes such a mellow session.
anyone else?

Moonlight Sonata is one of the greatest pieces of music to ever be composed.
Check out bands like Godspeed You! Black Emperor, A Silver Mt. Zion, and Explosions in the Sky if you like classical/instrumental type stuff.

I'm not real big into any of those famous com*****s but when it comes to bass I think bach really had some interesting stuff going on with bass instruments.
I do however like quite some classical pieces on acoustic guitar. But I also despise all of the neo-classical shredding going on these days on electric guitar*cough*yngwie malmsteen*cough*

Yeah, Malmsteen is a douche. But once again, just go listen to Explosions in the Sky. If you like those bands, go to the music recommendation thread and check out other bands in the post rock category.

When I went to Poland we visited the house where Chopin was born. I bought a Chopin CD and I really like it. I got hold of some more classical music but I tend to prefer the 'Romantic Period', the other stuff tends to bore me.
I'm getting into Classical sounding metal too, Symphony X for example.

I must say I agree. nothing like listening to Fantasie-Impromptu or Revolutionary Etude to calm you down as you skate.

No.
Not at all.
Classical music was composed during, roughly, the late 18th century and mid 19th century. If you want classical guitar, check out the late Andres Segovia's recordings. He performed many classical compositions of that age by Spanish com*****s, but also rearranged "kosher" classical pieces for guitar, aka String Quartet in E Flat Major, Opus 12 - Canzonetta (Felix Mendelsshon).
You may enjoy works of the romantic period much more then those of the classical era. I find that, with the classical era being somewhat transitional, that the Baroque and Romantic periods far outweigh most of the compositions of that day.
If you want Baroque music, check out Bach (pretty much the staple of the day), but don't overlook other artists such as Vivaldi (Four Seasons anyone?), Telemann, and Boccherini (Concerto in G Major as performed by Yo Yo Ma, beautiful). Wiki will supply you with more then a few good com*****s of the baroque period.
For romantic music, you would be best exploring the more "mainstream" com*****s of that era. Tchaikovsky is a must. The pieces for trumpet are my favourite (as I play trumpet) during that time, and may be yours too.
Wiki it folks.

It's not my opinion. Private Investigations was clearly not written during the classical period, so it is not a classical song. I wasn't stating what I thought of the song, but merely the date of creation.
Also, my dates were slightly off. According to wikipedia the classical period ended around 1820 and started around 1760. A main brunt of the classical music I listen to is from about the turn of the 19th century, so I made a little error. My bad.

I've been playing cello for four years, so I can relate to it. Very relaxing.
