I personally am skating in some hot Filas(high tops too), but i guess it is cause skateboarding shoes are more padded and in ways, comfortable when skating.

Edit- 1ST POST!

Sk8 shoes last longer and have a better feel on a board.

Skate shoes are a must(any type) because of their wide flat bottom. If you try to skate in regular shoes you could end up spraining an ankle or anything like that.

Try to think of it this way: Skateboarding shoes are designed for skateboarding (or at least we hope!). Basketball shoes are intended for basketball. That's not to say that basketball shoes wouldn't work for skating, though. Air Jordans were the shoe of choice for many in the 80s, despite it being a basketball shoe.

But really, if you like your Converse or Nikes, like the grip you get with them and the board feel you get, stick with 'em. Down the road, I encourage you to try some skate shoes. I think you'll find you like 'em more, particularly when your on your board.

Okay, so i went outside and sort of tested this one out. I put on my new balances and went outside to skate. I tried to do several ollies, but the board would just not pop right, i landed one ollie out of many. I go inside after this and put on my Filas. Now I go outside and try several more ollies and land all but 1. So, maybe it just depends on what you are used to skating in, seeing as how my bro skates find in his new balances.

skate shoes have wider soles and have better grip to the tape and have reinforcement
