Either im not riding properly or they need to name a new style. I stand goofy on the board but instead of pushing of with my back foot (near the tail) i like to use my front foot to get to places. Is this going to be difficult when doing more tricks ? Thanks,
also does anybody else have this stance & push :)

They in fact have an infamous name for what you're doing. It's called pushing mongo and it
is considered bad style
gives you less control of the board
give you less time to set up with tricks
So it's basically taboo. The good thing is, when you start doing switch tricks you'll be able to push faster.

yess mango is horrible.. IMO so just ride goof or norm wich ever one feels beter cuz with mongo .. not to be an ass or anything but other skaters might make fun of you forpushin mongo and it gives bad rep and no to mention less time for things just like the guy above me said.
ride goofy or norm

Wow thanks guys if i hadnt asked about this it would of been a problem for years. Ive been skating for 2 and then i stopped and started again. I went outside just after the 1st post and tried pushing of with my back foot. Wow so much easier, also easier to set up tricks like he said. Its just getting used to it now i keep going onto my board with the back foot lol. CHeeeers

I see a lot of people pushing mongo, and some of them are pretty good. However, pushing mongo is generally frowned upon for reasons previously mentioned, style not withstanding. Whether you continue to push mongo or learn to push with your tail foot it up to you.
I ride goofy-footed, and push with my left foot, fwiw.

Personally I like mongo. It's a breath of fresh air. Do what you want.

I can totally understand the part about taking longer to set up for tricks, but not about the style, how's that bad style? I would think it would be good style like nollie, and switch because its hard

cause it looks horrible and uncomfortable.
and one good thing about starting off mongo is because it makes switch a helluva lot easier. people who start off never mongo are usually mongo switch. but if you start off mongo and switch to reugular you can push switch fine. thats what happened to me. i started off mongo. lost the habit like a year ago. now im really comfortable riding switch.

Thread is old.
But, mongo is just ****ing ugly. Makes tricks look shittier, style look shittier, and is just plain ugly. It's nothing like switch or nollie, being harder. Hhaha, I'd rather see a nollie bs bigspin down a 12 stair than a mongo push to regular fs bigspin down a 12 stair. I never skated mongo, I'm glad for this. I push switch fine too.

yeah i agree with the general feel here...
i think mongo is ok for if you're just trying to skate cruisingly and whatever but if you want to progress your style then you definatley have to learn to push normally...
it shouldn't be that hard as i learnt to push in switch within a few days...
i just ride to the park in switch and pushing in switch to get a feel and now im trying to skate switch more (Y)

I can't stand pushing mongo at all, regular or switch. As far as style loss for mongo goes, one of the examples I can think of is Daniel Shimizu's part in That's Life, in which he pushes mongo switch. Even though mongo switch is generally acceptable, watching him push it shows the style loss, at least in my eyes. His pushing is really fluent, but then getting set up to just cruise completely breaks the flow when he hops into position. There are some other, far uglier examples, but that's one that I think really shows how it breaks a flow. Anyways, I don't generally like mongo, regular or switch, and I'm glad I don't push it either way.

alot of my mates skate mongo. i'm assuming never mongo for a regular stance skater would be left foot at front of the board and push with right leg. i have always skated like that and find skating mongo extremely gay and hard to control. but wat i am confused about is this. if i normally push never mongo on regular stance how come when i switch to riding goofy i still push with my left foot, but this time at the back of the board.
