I loosed the wheels and it still won't move but a few feet at a time. Any tips or is using it an exercise in futility?

All you need to do is get some good wheels to put on it. Even with the crappy bearings, good wheels will make it roll real good.

get better bearings and wheels for the speed.

if the trucks break replace those with some better quality.

thats what i ended up doing when i first started.

You're stupid then, because all you need for a complete new setup is a deck. Which would be ten times better than a Walmart board, so why get one in the first place?

Pretty much. Go support your local shop and have them set you up.

how is that stupid?

if its a starter they migth go skating is gay and just quit then go hop on a bmx bike and say this is gay too and basically sit infront of a tv and laugh and get fat.. and they wasted 150 bucks on a board and what ever else they tried.. rather than wasting 20 bucks. the thing about the trucks you never know then your trucks will break, so when they do replace them with industrials or something. ya sure all you have left is a deck. but thats he person started with.

Just take out the bearings, clean them, but don't re-lube them. I don't recommend doing that though, if a tiny grain of sand gets in it, you'll end up flying. Just get a nice, cheap blank complete from blankdecks.com. Only $50+shipping. I'm pretty sure wal-mart stuff aren't precision made, and the specs aren't industry standard, meaning ventures probably won't fit into some wal-mart decks. Plus, if all you're gonna get are wal-marts, then you'll probably end up quitting because it's way harder to skate a wal-mart then to skate a real board, and you'll end up getting more frusterated more often. Wal-marts are still good as a first deck, but I wouldn't recommend getting them continuously. After you go through your first wal-mart, then you should be able to decide wether you want to take skating seriously or not.

I really want to skate, though, so I haven't given up total hope.

The local skate shop shut down, so I'm pretty SOL. I'd have to order one via the internets.
