I cannot ollie. I do not know what it is, maybe I'm just not meant to be a skater :D. I've been trying for a looong time, and I have one question. Can a board/wheels/trucks/bearings make a difference? I have, what I consider, a crap set right now. The board is nearly completly flat, no concave or larged flipped up ends. The trucks are wearing and the wheels dont roll well. If I get a higher quality set, can it improve my skating?

You can slightly improve whatever skills you already have by having a nicer setup, yes. However, if you can't ollie yet, you won't magically be able to ollie if you get a new setup. If you can ollie like 1 cm off the ground though, you may be able to ollie 3 cm off the ground on a new deck.

It will help but to a minimum, are you on a walmart board?
Just keep practicing and it will come to you.

I remember when i first started, oh...back in the day...I didn't even try to ollie. Just get used to your board, no matter what kind it is. I used a X-games walmart board when i first started. I just pushed around, and like a month later, i first HEARD of the ollie. Then i started to try it, but i couldnt get it. I also thought that maybe, I wasnt meant to skate. My problem back then was I had chicken foot, as in my back foot stayed on the ground when i tried to ollie. jsut keep trying, and when you land your first ollie, it will shed light to so many tricks.

if you love to skate, then you're meant to skate, don't doubt yourself, ollies are the most basic trick in skateboarding, and it WILL take a while, I know from personal experience. You might think that it is your board for a while, and get agrivated, but you just have to keep trying, skate with people better then you, good influence. Just keep goin bud.

just stand in place and practicing ollies until ur bout to pass out or if u are confident learn them rolling. dont do anything but try those. Look at what ur doing and try to watch vids and learn by what they do. just put your front foot middle of the board. lean forward, pop, slide front foot and land. just takes practice. anyways gl

Well as they've all said keep on practising it'll hit you and once you land that ollie you'll get a great feeling. =D A new setup will most likley help you depending on your current setup.

Its better if you get a quality board. Wal-Marts and real boards are complely different. You'll also have more fun on a real board. On a Wal-Mart, you might develop weird habits like tic tacing to turn and stuff.

yeh a board with nice concave is what i find helps like not too steep but not too mellow and if you are lerning tighter trucks may help but not soild tihgt but tight:)
