Excuse me if i'm wrong, it's a little hard to tell. But, these angles aren't very good at all, your going for fisheye angles without a fisheye. Back up, work on your composition, and keep on practicing. What camera are you using?

I understand you feel the shots are too close, but this is how I feel:
The fisheye effect is lost past a varying length depending on focal distance of the lens. I rock the sigma 8mm which requires an extreme closeness for proper distortion effect. The further I am back the more the effect is lost and the point of using the lens becomes mainly a wide angle. The purpose of the fisheye is to get as close to the action as possible without losing anything from the frame.
I understand I was too close for the crook obviously, but it was an interesting view either way.
All of the shots shown were cropped past their normal frame. I don't dig the look of the black ring so I have to try to crop proportionately. Most of the shots originally had more background but I opted to take that out. It would be different if I had a full frame body but I shoot a Canon 30d and the sensors crop ratio would kill the distortion on a diagonal lens.
Either way next session I shoot I will take a look at backing up to see if any of the shots come out better with some better framing but like I said in the past the effect is mostly lost.
I shoot a Canon 30d
Sigma 8mm 3.5f Fisheye
Canon 17-40mm 4f L
All these shots I used the on-body flash for fill but the previous Toledo session I used a 420ex Speedlight with omni-bounce diffuser.
