First one, way to bright sky, and it's crooked, the skater looks out of focus too. Second, the angle is very boring, looks point and shoot-ish.

Second picture is good, could use a more intriguing angle but nice timing. Nice tricks nonetheless. Also, I want your clothes. Seriously.

Wow, wanna rag on him a bit more?
I believe the angle is deliberate; it's called a Dutch Angle and it's for emphasis; almost like a visual hyperbole.
The bright sky gives it a relaxing feel; and seeing as it came out in white; it'd be difficult to edit in photoshop without making it look artificial and horrible.
The skater is in focus, you just have bad eyes. It is natural backlighting, which silhouettes him and makes him kind of hard to see ... if you were any decent in photography, you would know this.
In the second photo, the angle isn't boring. It's a low-angle medium shot. The flat rail makes it hard to shoot it adequately any other way.
So cool it.

ugh, take this high school photography class garbage out of this topic please
honestly I have a lot more respect for point and shoot-ers because they don't throw around technical trash like this

Photography lacks depth without technical trash.

Photography lacks depth without technical trash. What ?
Photography only lacks excess verbiage without the technical words
When you boil it down to a predetermined set of factors, get schooled on "technique", and are using jargon to describe pictures, you turn an art into something mathematical or scientific.
It's not a science, it's a point and shoot affair when all is said and done. There's something ingenuine when you start dissecting pictures for a lot of "photographic elements" when you're on anything other than a professional level.
"Yeah those are nice tones"
"Good contrast, neat angle"
Reviews should really not have to be more in-depth than something like that, especially when someone is using a camera that most likely doesn't even have interchangable lenses...
I mean, don't you think "it's called a Dutch Angle and it's for emphasis; almost like a visual hyperbole." is a little excessive, honestly.

Well, that's your opinion, and I'll leave that to you. Personally I think it helps you appreciate things more if you delve into technicality. If an author had done all this research and used all this intertextuality, who do you think he'd be more appreciated by: the person who takes it prima facie, or the person who can read and understand the references he's made and understand the wit behind it because of such? People do things deliberately when they take a photo, if it's a serious photo. They think about the angle, the lighting, the toning -- all the elements of photography. Why? Because they think about the mood they're trying to convey. A person who understands all these things would appreciate it more instead of saying "that's a nice picture".
**** that makes me angry. Don't flame me for understanding things in detail rather than staying on a superficial level.
Well, it's your opinion, and I don't give. So whatever.

^ Oh boy oh boy you're special!
Danielb wasn't ragging on skaterftf, he just was picking out the few points in the shots that he thought were bad.
Pop the flip thing higher and raise the rail to the highest height.

Ab-a-wa?! Sorry if that came off rough, it was meant as pointers and advice, not pointless 'ragging'.

Hahahahahaha. I'm so glad I stayed out of this conversation. Well, these are pictures of me so I don't really have a choice in where and how they should look. When I take pictures of my friends, I'm usually anal about focus and angles and what not. I don't like to bother. It's funny how technical you guys got on a picture.
I think a picture looks good if a picture LOOKS good. But they could always be better. :)
Here's a new one.

My friends. They're not as artsy as I am but they get the job done.

YES. I love that spot. Everyone else hates it. We call it the Taco. I freaking kill at the Taco, I'm good at a lot of spots but I'm king there since no one else can do the things I do.
