the kickass guys i saw on the tony hawk games(#1) and from watching x-games, but basicaly i've always thaught that skating was cool andculdnt wait till i got enough money to buy a real set-up.... so basically i dont remember, o yeah and the kids who i hang around with... basically 4 people,3 who i like and 2 who skate, but the 2 who skate are really into it and i wanted to hang around wth them more too... So basically i got into sating beause of the images of being a pro and te pro's, bob burnquist mucho influenced me, iust dont know why though cuz i cant drop in... im not balanced enuff... but yeah, him and um... i cant remember the street skater tho...i think it might have been vallely... alwell, they all kickass as well as i can think of... so why am i writing this, its a perfect day out... im going to skate bye.

I'll be straightforward, when I was in Elementary school, I HATED boarding. The only reason, is because all I ever saw was vert...and I got sick of it. I grew up blading in Ohio...so boarding was never really a choice till I moved to missouri. I finally decided to give it a fair shot. I did...then 8 other kids at my old town (population 450) got setups...and we would all board before and after school. Ironic thing: I moved....there is now no more skateboarders in the area...proves who was in it for the trend.

Overall, I just thought it was challenging...something different than blading. I am a perfectionist. I won't stop doing anything (for example...posting!) until I think I've put every bit of my energy into it. I decided I'd learn to ollie or something, and just quit, and be happy. I learned to ollie, and soon passed up my best friend. He got me to stick with it...the rest is history.

i've always thought skating was cool as hell, i had like 7 skatevideos memorized before i actually had my first skateboard, then my daddy and i stopped at fobia one day (local skateshop) and i threw a tempertantrum right in the store (yes i was 14 at the time) and he bought it for me......

Hating Tony hawk? That's a lot like saying "I hate the creator of skateboarding". He is responsible for so many of the modern tricks, it's not even funny.

Saying he sold out is a lot like saying 'I hate him cause he's so popular'...there's no good reason.

Of course I understand why you'd hate someone that is a wonderful skateboarder, that falls into money. If I fall into money one day...will I be considered a sellout? If so...I'll be proud to be a "sellout"...if that means I'm copying Tony hawk. Keep in mind he does not make the video games, and the tony hawk lunchboxes. He says 'sure, put my face on it'....

Actually, he didn't DO the games, but he did help. He did like all the motion capture for the model skeleton.

For the main topic:

First, I was skiing, but then I saw some guys doing jumps and rails on snowboard. I thought it wuz pretty cool, and I quited skiing in the middle of the season. First, I was boarding with a snowboard I was renting, but then I bought my own...that was 8 years ago, and since then, I snowboard like 30-40 times a year with friends and school.

like I said..he didn't say 'hey I want my video game'. They said 'we're offering you this'....who in their right mind would turn their own video game down, especially when it's as popular as it is! The name has nothing to do with the game. I don't care if they called it 'mumbo jumbo columbo skateboarding'...it's still a kick ass game...with, or without his name.

i started skating(like actually boarding) til about almost 3 years ago. but a while before that this kid in my neighboor hood was the only one who actually rode his(he's a year younger than me)skateboard, but then we all would use his old nash boards(he had one too)and luge down our hill in our neighboorhood. then i learned how to ollie about 6 months after we started (after the luge crap)i learned how to ollie(now with real setups), then the rest of them, but the funny thing is none of them(except me and the dude that started it all) progressed.just recently they've started progressing.but my friend who started it moved about 2 months ago.but no ones really as into it anymore besides me.i think they do it because i do it, so i just motivate them and help them with tricks.so it kinda gets alittle lonely. but then i got a friend whos into as much as i am, and it's only a 5-10 min. drive too each others houses.so we go to the park together and go to each others houses.

off the subject now.Tony Hawk might not be my favorite skater, but he is one of the godfathers of skating, along with mullen, caballero,Sean Sheffy,Mark Gonzales, and Tony Alva. i agree with Mrock and Bamfan about Tony Hawk.

hope i haven't wasted your time

I figured if I started skateboarding I'd become more popular. It worked. I was basically peer pressured into skating. But now I just do it for the fun of it. I play my Gamecube the rest of the time I'm not sk8ing.

It all started when i was in 6th grade now i am in 7th. there was this kid in my classes who always had ccs mags. i ask if i could see it he said sure so i went home and i ask my mom if i could go to books a million and she said sure i got a issue of transwold and i loved it was the best thing i have ever seen i read it from front to back when i was reading it i saw a add. that they were building a skate park 10-15min. away from here so when it opend i went i had a crappy deck cause the full deck that i wanted was $160.95 for a complete so i had to wait till my birth-day to get one
and i've been progressing sence then and recitly my mom went down there every day to drop me off and the manager was looking for some body to help him run the place so my mom worked there and this kid came named ray was agrresive skating
it looked really awsome so i bougt some and it was like god giving me a $1,000,000 dollars dont get me wrong i still skate board i skate girl for right now but me and my friend sean skate when ever we can together which is 1 ta 10 but he skateboards and i inline but we still get along but that is my story about how i got started skating sorry if i wasted your time!

I got into sk8in' cuz i thought it was the coolest extreme sport ever. PLUS i wanted a challenge, i wanted something that would take me a while to learn. something that would cause alot of pain, practice and motivation. i also wanted to be different because hardly anyone sk8ted where i lived. so yeah. i guess thats why i chose to sk8.

i started skiing when i was 8 then i wanted to snowboar so i took up snowboarding when i was 12. i love snowboarding so i needed something to keep my balance in the off season so i took up skating this past summer. i wasnt planing on doing tricks but i was like this is boring with out any tricks so i learned some...i use to skate like once in a while when i was in like 6th grade because i was better than most of my friends since they had no balance. also watching the X-games and crap i wanted to learn all the stuff cuz it looked really cool and there is so much you can do like tweaking tricks and doing them fakie it adds your own personal touches to your tricks

well, i was in a GATE class at school, which is an afterschool program, and we got a break halfway through. so we went to these trees and sat under them. there were some skateboarders on this 7 stair, and it was so cool. punk1039 was there. I'm pretty sure the skaters were the Girl team.

i cant really remember, i think what happened was i saw the x-games and i was completely mesmorized by what these guys were doing, it didnt seem possible to me. so i went out, bought a crappy ass setup for like $80, a 411 video, and started skating. the 411 was like a bible to me back then, i think i almost wore it out cuz i watched it so much. looking back it wasnt even that great of a video, but it seemed so amazing to me back then. and then i learned to ollie and started skating. then i sort of drifted away from it, right after i got ollies down good, and quit for like a year. then about 6 months ago a friend of mine who started skating when i did but never quit came over and i was amazed by all the stuff he had learned just because he spent practically every day at the park. so then i dug up my old element, started skating again, snapped it after like a week doing a 4 stair, and bought a flip. after that i took off and started learning stuff a lot faster.

I pretty much got into skating because I wanted to try something new, and at the time everyone was biking. It's so sickening to see skateboarding as a "trend" like the eminem bleaching your hair shit.

Pitiful!

in seventh grade some of my friends and i started making a skateboarding documentary. i sucked back then, i think i could only ollie and i didn't try to progress. once we finished the video, i started getting into it and my best friend got a mini ramp that spring (the vid was made in march) and a couple of rails and we just pushed each other and progressed alot.i had an enjoi back then, and it was really warped but i still remember staying out on his cement pad with the light on learning kickflips. i get one and shoot out and slam. then i got a flip deck and learned loads of stuff fast. but i think what got me started was the fact that it looked so fun. i got my first board christmas of seventh grade (it was a walmart) and leard to ollie in my room because it was snowing outside!

i basically started cuz these kids would skate and i thought , y not? then i started really skating, i mean more dedication into it when life got depressing. so it was an outlet to put depression aside. it helped alot. nowadays, its just the most fun thing to do.

i didnt really think about it much, i moved into my new neighborhood and these little kids down the streets had some skateboards so i started lugeing down there driveway cuz i couldnt keep my balance, but then some kids taught me how to stand and eventually push off(but the bastards taught me mongo wich totally sux) i had no idea there was a whole world of professionals and x-games and all that stuff, the very day after i started i loved it so much i just had to get a toys r us board, but hey back that then that thing was bitchin
