ok, first of all i know some of you that read this will just call me a pussy or something along those lines. i don't care. i need help. this is long but if you could, please read my story.
i fell very hard yesterday. my whole body is wrecked. nothing is broken, but a great deal of damage was dealt. there are large cuts on my hand, my entire arm, my knee, and my shoulders. there are very limited comfortable positions for my body. these are just cuts but to me they are much more serious.
i feel like i was the worst person to ever pick up a skateboard. i skate flatground. that's pretty much what i am limited to. i have bombed a few hills (this is how it happened). done very poorly on real "street". i can't even ollie up a curb properly. i feel i should be much better than this. simply because it would seem justified to me. this is basically all i do. of course i don't skate for 10 hours every day and watch skateboard videos all day long, but it really hurts me that when i do see videos of how good these people are, i wonder why i couldn't be like them. it doesn't seem fair. i love it so much when i see other people than me do it and when i try i just fail. it hurts a lot.
i can hear many insults coming just from putting this thread up. what some of you will type. but i'm asking if anyone has any shred of advice to offer to my situation, it will gladly be appreciated. i don't know what i want to hear. i hope some of you do.

stay with it learn from watching footage. keep working on flatground then find some gaps ledges rails in your area and step it up.

ok. i have nothing against you personally but when you said that you see how good people are and wonder why you cant be that good and that its not fair. thats what i didnt like. i hate people like that with a passion. they all think that they should just magically be good or something. its called hard work and determination. ive been working my ass off for the past couple of years skating because i wanted to be what i like to think is a good skater. when i was in like 7th grade (about 3ish years ago) i was always called a ***** because i wasnt that good. i didnt really care and still dont. i just work my ass off and now i know i could kill any of them in skating. if you want inspiration watch a skate video or just go friggen practice skating. if you cant take the pain then just quit. simple as that. sorry for anything in here that someone doesnt like. i feel very disrespected when people think that it isnt fair when i can do something that they cant and ive been working my ass off for years and they just started. i dont know how long adio guy has been skating so im not talking specifically about him. im talking about everyone in general that thinks everything should just come to them at the snap of a finger.

I feel like some times.. but then i just think.. where will i be in a year if i carry on skating? or 2? or 5? if i give up now, i will never get anywhere with it.. and then i just get loads of confidence and really wanna skate..
another thing i do is listen to music when i skate.. It makes me think about other things, i dunno why, but it helps me land tricks.. not concentrating to hard i just do it and it works out.
I'm not good.. only skating for mabye a month, i can hardly ollie a curb, my best trick is a pop shuvit, and my ollies suck.. but just keep on practicing.. as much as you want, or can, if you're like me. I always think back to a couple of weeks ago.. how much i have improved in just a couple of weeks, sometimes i film myself, then look back at it, mabye a week later, and see how much i've improved. It really makes me feel good.
Also, skate with friends.. when i don't skate with my friends, i have a much slower learning rate, but skating with friends gives me confidents and makes skating a bit more enjoyable
I know i shouldnt really being saying this, since im so new to skating.. but never think you're not good enough to take a fall..
My friend, on his first day skating, dropped into a 6ft quater before he could barely push. He is stupidly confident. Confidence makes such a big differance.. but then again, he fell off 30 minutes later trying to do it again, and almost broke his wrist..
uhm.. don't know if i helped at all, but yea, practice as much as you like, because if you like skating, enjoy it.. you don't need to push yourself as long as you enjoy what you're doing
how long have you been skating?
oh.. yea.. and a tip.. wear pads if you don't like getting hurt

About your injuries. It's all part of skating. We've all had our share of injuries, just lay it off for a few days and start skating again.
Don't treat skating like a chore, as if it's a job to be good at it and to get sponsered, treat it more like an opportunity to learn new things and have fun. Who cares if you might not be as everyone else? Being good at skating is only an extra bonus.
Skating with friends is a good way to have fun and boost your confidence up, especially if they're at the same level of skating as you are.

im sorry for the injuries you have gone through
but seriously dude it could of been alot worse
u could of ended up in the hospital, with a broken leg, and you could of been dead
compared to what you could have been through which would of been alot worse
u got it kinda easy
im still sorry u went threw what u did
but once again... ive gone through worse, or atleast i think so
i ollied down a 10 set, i got a bunch of speed, and right when i was about to ollie down the set a ****ing pebble stopped me and i flew down the stairs, i ended up with a bunch of cuts on my body also and not only that
my jaw was messed up for a lil bit and thanks to that crash my teeth are ****ed up also
and yet i still skate, ive been skating hard and ive never stopped since then
i still try hard and i still practice all the time when i can.
You gotta learn to keep going without complaining and whining, things will happen to you when u skate.
How do u think pro's are where they are right now?
cause they went through the same shit we all have gone through while skating, but they kept going and they had determination and they tried hard
you cant just expect things to come to you, dont be like all the bitches that think that skating is so easy and itll just come to u, dont be like those people that see skaters are doing something really easy, skateboarding is not easy, it wont just come to you, either u try hard and u try and get far through determination and trying hard
or u wont get anywhere
u wanna be where the pro's are right now? well then u need to try as hard as u can without complaining and getting pissed off cause u cant land something or cause u fall, pro's have gone through the same stuff u have before.
And by the way, ive been skating for like 10 years and im still not as good as a pro. Trust me, skating wont just come to u, so don't expect it to.

well some of this helps. i mean i know it's selfish to think the way i do. i just do. but i'm not complaining about the pain. the pain is annoying of course, and it's a huge reminder of what happened, but the deal with me is well i don't know what my problems are. i never try anything other than flatground. so whenever i try something new but i still think it is within my grasp and i fall or something. it takes its toll on me. i feel like a loser. like what am i supposed to do? never try anything or try something and fail and realize i can never bomb a hill or something. i mean it was probably the scariest moment of my life. it went by so quickly. all of it felt like 5 minutes. getting up walking back to my friends house (this is where it happened.) going to my house. it was all so shocking. i'm just not used to falling i guess. i know i sound stupid, this is why i want help.

that's perfectly normal. whenever i try something new i always, and i mean always, seem to bust my ass. if the pain is only annoying then your on the right track. your getting used to the aches and pains and building a higher (or is it lower?) threshold for it. this allows your to skate through it instead of constantly taking one or two day breaks to heal up. wait for the worst of it to clear and go back out there. force yourself to try every new thing you can think of to get a basic feeling for it and to lose any fear you have. there are people with extrodinary amounts of talent and they still have to practice (not as much as others but it's still quite a bit of time). make sure you spend at least an hour a day on learning new tricks. when your skating, stop everything else for 45 minutes and focus on one trick. for example, stop for a bit and do as many kickflips as you can in that time period, in motion of course. try reading this (http://www.ramprage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28979), i wrote it with a focus on the skater himself and not anything else. always get yourself in the best physical and mental condition for skating. and NEVER call yourself a loser. skateboarding is as much a mentality thing as it is a skill. good luck.

Thats what happens to us all man, we all go through falling and not landing way more than half the shit we do.
Think of it this way......at least you can do flat ground, not alot of people I know can.
Be happy you can skate, be happy that you don't have a broken board (like i do) or broken legs so you can't skate, be happy that at least you have the ability to skate while other people see skaters and say "God I wish I could do that", while their just sitting there in a wheelchair.
At least you can skate man, be happy at least your as far as you are, and if you want to go further, then your going to try harder and be more determined, or else you'll need to quit being mad over everything that you don't land and just learn to get used to it.

Flatground/freestyle tricks are frustrating for me. I fell while bombing hills earlier this week, I know how you feel. But what helps me is just watching people at my skill level, and not just watching these unknown skaters that are busting out real handrails etc.
Just focus on your own level and things that you know you are capable of with the right mentality and know-how.
Just because you see everyone in every skate video land 90% of their stuff that doesn't mean that they didn't flawlessly execute it their first try. It takes practice and experience.

thanks a lot guys. this really encourages me. i guess everybody falls and i just have to accept that i will fall no matter what goes through my mind. i will try my best at skateboarding because it's what i love. i probably would have felt better if i actually didn't fall at that time, but now i have a new outlook on skateboarding. in a sense i needed to fall. it was a growing experience. thanks you guys.

Sorry about the injuries bro. A while back, I skated my first 6 stair, and spent hours trying to 360 flip it. I never actually got it, until a few months later, but I did get really hurt. The next day, I couldn't walk correctly, and school was hell. For the most part, don't push yourself, and you'll be fine. You got unlucky.
Nobody ever said skateboarding was fair. Terry Kennedy 50-50'd his first 10(?) stair handrail within a year of skating. I've been skating for a almost 2 years, and still can't 50-50 handrails. Shoot, I can 360 flip better than anyone around (except maybe one kid), but thats it. I don't have the best pop, I can't ollie the biggest stairs, I can't do heelflip tricks well. Those pro's got lucky and found the one thing they love and are amazing at. Just keep skating, and you'll progress. You don't need to be the best skateboarder ever, I'm sure not, I suck. Just have fun, and everything else falls into place.
All you need to do is skate and have fun, bro.

yeah, like i said, you'll eventually get used to it. the pain will numb faster and you'll be able to push through it. don't worry about getting sponsored or being like pro's. i know this kid who is sponsored by URF and he absolutley sucks. not trying to brag but i'm much better than him and i don't care about being sponsored. i've never sent a tape in to any company, i just care about skating which is what you should do too. you'll find that you'll skate much better.

whoever insults you for this is an asshole, don't listen to them, it's all about practicing, if it does mean skating for 10hrs a day and watching skate videos all day, don't do it just to get better, do it because you want to, skating is one of the hardest sports in the world to get good at, not anyone can do it first try, you have to practice.

Incase you don't know dude, the guys in videos probably get it a lot worse, it takes hours for them to get those tricks and years to get the skill to be able to do them. And with the injuries, the more experienced you get at skating the less you will bail, just keep a positive attitude, try not to get frustrated, and just have fun, thats what it's about. Don't worry about what like Johnny rail killer's doing just get out there and stick with it.

NO! you are suppose to get up and try it again and fall on your ass over and over until you land it. thats pretty much all there is to skating. yeah, it takes a little skill but most of all, it takes determination to get back up and fall on your ass again and again untill you finally do it. sure it will hurt but once you land it, it will all be worth it. if you get hurt really bad like break a bone or something, you look cool. if you just fall and get scraped up then just sit down for a little while and go back to falling on your ass.
PS. if you think that the pros are soooo good and can do cool stuff like every time. thats not true. i used to think that if someone wanted to be pro they would need to be able to tre flip a 10 like every time. but thats not true. after i watched this (http://youtube.com/watch?v=xg_QRwqLySA) it made me feel a lot better about my skating.

When I started I suppose I was like you, but falling is part of skating and espically the beginning. Once you have skated for a few years you'll have more control of your board and won't fall as much. So don't worry about it too much, Just chill and skate slowly (or less) when you are hurt untill you get better.

Well its good to see you back up and running. I think that you were thinking about the consequences negatively. You gotta think about landing it. Have the sort of inner drive that once you land it, you'll feel good. mmhmm.

Yo the worst thing you can do is stop skating... Do whatever's fun. If you can't ollie, don't feel bad because you can't. If you wanna learn, start small and work up slowly. No one can ollie like the pros - like 2-3 feet. So just keep practicing.

Just have fun with skateboarding. Being a skateboarder doesnt mean you have to skate all day every day, it means you enjoy skateboarding.
