It was my first time spraining my ankle today in a game of basketball. Now i cant even skateboard for the next couple of days. For the ppl who had sprained ankles before, how long did it take for your ankle to fully heal itself? Also, are there any special treatments or exercises i can do to help with my ankle recovery speed

Thanks

I know there are a few pros out who use herbal remedies an stuff..I use this NZ bruise cream and just sitt it out..ussually a week at the most..I've had a few really bad sprains..but most of the time i just skate lightly and it heals..rest it and try to use it lighly..u still need to use it abit to keep it from healing stiff...just excersize it lightly...

If you did it in basketball you had better get it checked out just to be sure it's nothing major, the hard courts put large amounts of stress on your joints and also all the the jumping and such. Around 4 months ago i thought i had just sprained my ankle in basketball so i just sat around for a few days and still didnt feel any better so i then went to the doctors. It turns out i had totally shredded my ligaments and because of the angle my foot landed the ligament tore so hard it took some bone with it. I then needed x rays, bonescans and stuff for a few months. Then finally a steroid injection to get rid of the floating bone.

Now not saying that will happen to you, but if it is the case and you did the same thing as me and hadnt had a doctors opinion on it you will do yourself alot more damage.

Also try and get ahold of some crutchers for a few days. They seemed to help me and also try to ice the wound a few hours a night.

i was skating a hubba ledge last year, doing fast fs 5-0s.. i lost my balance right at the end and my nose went down, but the ledge ended right there so my nose/front truck had nothing to go back on, so i basically did a nosedive. my front foot slipped off the nose of my board when it hit the ground and i rolled my ankle almost 90 degrees.

i could barely walk for a week and it wasnt good enough to skate for a month, and even after that, i still wrapped it up regularly, and especially when i skated.

its all better now, but if you hurt yourself, take care of it, cause itll be better for the future.

use the rice treatment (look it up). if its REALLY bad though, go to the doctor.

RICE, and maybe try mobility exercises.

That same thing happened to me yesterday, probably better to just scrape the tail.

you mean 5-0 with the tail rested on the ledge rather than balancing it? i usually do that especially on fs 5-0s (i like to balance on bs ones though).

if i balance a fs 5-0, its usually on accident, cause i kinda like them not balanced. my bodys momentum just got ahead of my board and thats why my nose came back down. it usually happens before the end of the ledge though, so i dont get that nosedive problem.

seriously, you should chill on that if thats really whats happening.

youre going to have ankle problems, and theyre going to be serious.

It depends how serious it is , it can be day-to-day or about a week if its sprained. Rest and stay off it for a while.

Spenser's right. If i roll my ankle in any way that is painful and makes me limp i stop there. If it hurts, let it rest.

Stay off your board for a while. I had the most severe type of sprain possible and I didn't skate for two weeks... Then I skated again and it's still not healed, 5 months later.

Thats what I do, I stay off my board for a day or two.

if its really bad though ill wait till i feel a lot better to even like roll.

Hah, for rolled/sprained ankles, I just lay down before bed, and "Spell" out the ABC's with my ankle, like, air-draw them more or less, wake up and it feels alot better, but that's just my 2 cents.

Sprained mine the first time i tried a tre-flip. It sucks royally. Just give it time. Dont' try to skate, aggravating it may give u an extension on how long it heals. So be patient and.....Play Tony Hawk ProSkater if your fiending that bad to skate. ROCK ON
