I was just wondering which shoes have the best ankle support but aren't too restrictive. Right now I'm skating MJ-3 lows with an ankle brace and the protection is fine but I have a hard time flicking the board because it is too restrictive. I already sprained my ankle once when skating without a brace while wearing lowtops, so lowtops are out of the question. I broke my ankle once and sprained it several times. I'm leaning towards Vans half-cabs or Emerica Francis. Any other suggestions?

I'm pretty much in the same position as you, I broke my ankle before and messed it up many times. I now just do ankle rolls before skating and it's working pretty well. I'd say any shoes with mids in the name would be helpful. Also, maybe an ACE bandage would help without being too restrictive.

no buddy, go with supra raider high tops. i got them and they protect my
ankles, especially when your on a bank and you bail and your board comes
speeding at your ankles. im skating those next after my supra vulk lows

most of the time, you roll your ankle because of the shape of the heel of the shoe, not the fact that its a lowtop shoe or whatever.
find a flat, wide-heeled shoe and you should be fine.
or something that doesnt have a high heel.
but just since you mentioned francises, im on my 3rd pair of the same color. love them. as far as ankle support, they dont make a huge difference as far as i can tell, but theyre not restrictive, so they should be good. add an extra insole (or preferrably replace the STI one with a better one) or your feet will hurt, though.
