I am going to make a skate video once I found out what I need. I know I need a camcorder but what else do I need to be able to put it on the internet? Any replies would be great. I can't wait to show you guys what I'm capable of doing and showing everybody what I can do.

you need a firewire cable and a some video editing software

well if you are using a normal camcorder then you are going to need a 'capture card' which can transfer stuff from your camcorder to your computer, i got mine for £60 and that came with an editor to edit films/show etc..
if your using a digital camera then you are going to need to get a firewire cable to transfer the stuff onto your computer, you will still need an editor with digital cameras
as for editors it's your choice of which to get:the best is Adobe Premiere and thats what a lot of ppl use but the only disadvantage is it costs around £500, but i suppose your paying for quallity. there is also the Videowave series which is what i use because it's relativly cheap and it's got nearly all the things Adobes got. Dazzel is also a good editor and a friend of mine usesthat... it's pretty good and cheap also but they are basically all the same: they all have spiecal features (slow-motion, speed up, change the colours etc...), they all edit your footage and they all let you put them on the net
hope that helped

Well, if you use a firewire cable, then you need a firewire card. Most IEEE 1934 cards cost anywhere from $50-150, but some can be more. I suggest a pennicle. Usually Pennicle sells it with their editing software Studio 8. If your a begginer to DV editing, then I'd suggest Studio 8 or VideoWave. If your a more advanced user, something like Premiere or FCP.
Off the subject: When I was at Circuit City yesterday, I saw this deal with something called PYRO, it included Adobe Premiere 6.5, Firewire card & cable, and a DVD ROM kit, all for $299.99. What suprised me about it is because Premiere usually goes for $600 or so, and that was half the price with other things included.

premiere isnt the best by far, premiere is basic compared to some editing programs.

I was just curious about it because usually premiere is retailed for $600, and it was part of a kit with IEEE 1934 card & cable, a DVD ROM software, and that, for $300.

Theres better stuff than premiere for sure. I've heard that Avid makes some good stuff with their Express DV software. 411vm uses Media 100 to make their videos.
I just got an adaptec firewire card for $100 canadian and it came with 2 ports and a 6 pin to 4 pin cable.

here's the easy way
Get an iMac, it comes complete with all you need. Open the box, turn it on, start iMovie and in an hour you have a movie ready for the web.
Premiere is definately not basic adn the Avid stuff is excellent. iMovie is basic, but Apple has a program called Final Cut pro that is as good and as powerful as it gets.
Just another option for that hard-saved money!

Yes, getting a mac would be a good idea. iMovie is pretty much the same thing as Windows Movie Maker that comes on xp I believe. Its drag and drop editing with some digital effects. Final Cut Pro is still not the best out there either.

Ok here's a problem. what would I need to do? My camcorder whenever I charge the battery it charges for a little bit and then it stops. Then when I hook the battery on and try and record it only stays on for a couple seconds. Would I need a new battery?

i got a question. wit the movie editing stuff like Adobe Premiere, does it let u convert the movies you make to Quicktime or Windows Meda Player format? Also with the 'capture card' does it like plug into the back of your computer like in the serial port or the USB?

Premiere can output to Mindows Media and Quicktime. You may need a compression program like Media Cleaner on the mac to make the files small enough for the web or for streaming.
The capture card goes into an expansion slot in your computer and will give your computer the ability to connect and talk to the camera. The firewire (AKA iLink or 1EEE 1394) card, is an incredibly fast 2 way communication protocol so that digital images can be saved on your hard drive. Firewire also controls the camera (device control), so you don't have to press play on the camera and record on the computer, the software can control both. If you have an analogue camera you can buy a card that will digitize the images from the camera but it doesn't have device control and the pictures won't be as good as if they were shot on digital in the first palce
A great resource is Computer Videomaker magazine (www.videomaker.com). Lots of resources and useful tips.
