Acetone works the best.........ask your mom she might have some laying around, especially if she likes to do her nails, but try to get it pure, not as a nail polish remover, or buy some from a hardware store or even the dollor store.
Rubbing alcohol works fine though. Just soak them in it for 5 min, take them out and spin it around a bit, then replace the dirty alcohol with clean alcohol and repeat the steps described until you're satisfied with the smoothness of the bearing. After that dry them with a hair dryer and relube them.

Thats what I do but I put them in the acohol move em around a little then flip them a few times and let the sit for about 4 and a half hours then I let them dry completly for an half an hour, then comes the speed cream.
If you or any one else could see if I am cleaning them wrong it would be great.

citrus cleaner diluted with water.
According to RocknRon, citrus based cleaners are bad, haven't tried it though.

remove shields...soak the bearings in paint thinner or acetone for about an hour, this will get rid of the old lube...then rinse them in 90% isopropyl rubbing alcohol, this cleans off the paint thinner and evaporates quickly by virtue of being alcohol...let 'em dry for a while...lube 'em, reassemble, and put those suckas back on your board

Ya I think alcohol works fine, just don't leave your bearings in it for too long or they'll rust.

91% isopropal alcohol is the best for cleaning your bearings. Take a hair dryer to 'em when your done to make sure everything is evaporated before lubing them up. I use Rons Bearing Cleaning System and that's part of the routine.
