what exactly is hardware? If i build a new skateboard do i have to have this? or is it not mandatory

Hardware is the bolts that keeps everything together, without hardware, you can't skate period.

wow, perfect ending to a perfect day. that was hillarious. hardware , like said above is the screws and nuts that hold the trucks onto the deck. yes you have to have this (unless you have some really strong tape or you glue the trucks on?) the advantages of having hardware is that your trucks stay on your board. i dont know of any disadvantages.

hahah this remids me of when i first started skating...i thought riser pads were like padding to stop the grip scuffing..oh well..now you know...

hardware are the 8 nuts and bolts that connect the trucks and the deck. having that said, you need hardware in order to skate. somehow hardware is insanely strong and usually never breaks, regardless of what brand you buy. i try to lean to the cheapest hardware.
