hey all, i'm looking for some soft wheels to put on my board. i know ricta made a set around 82a duro, but i was wondering if there were any others out there. i'd be using them to skate parks and stuff (i really don't like the feel of hard wheels in parks)...plus i'm more into the old-school type tricks so i really don't gotta worry about wrecking the wheels down a 5-set or anything.
i've found bones wheels, but they don't list a specific duro or anything
http://www.utilityboardsupply.com/get_item_bow022_bones-soft-core-wheel-white.htm
and i wondered if 56mm would be too big
http://www.milehighskates.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=23&products_id=1477

http://www.utilityboardsupply.com/get_item_bow014_bones-skatepark-standard-wheel.htm don't have a duro listed here...but then again, they're bones

okay thanks!

ricta 82a's are hard
they actually made 82a wheels a few years ago...the new ones are 82b or 82d, which are close to the "a" scale, but harder...it's really kinda strange how they rate urethane duros...but back on topic, ricta DID make an 82a SOFT wheel a few years ago

Bones SPF or Soft Cores
are the bones spf wheels soft-ish? i've heard they're actually about 97a duromoeter (which is about the duro of the wheels i'm running right now)

Kinda but they are not durometer, SPF are perfect for Skateparks
or just go with Soft Cores

would an aggressive inline wheel work? they're about the right size, about the right hardness...the only problem i could foresee would be that they might wear down really quickly

bones soft core wheels are 80a. and the spf (skate park formula) are probably like 97a-98a.

and for the inline wheels... there are people that use them for filming with their skateboards. i dont know if they will wear down fast or what. but they are used. (while used for filming they probably dont wear down very fast because they just roll around) but they should work because in line skating should be just as hard on wheels as skatboarding?

haha dude that reminds me of a few years back when i had crappy bearings and i wanted to bomb hills, so i put some hockey skate wheels on them and it was horrible haha the board got speed wobbles so easily cuz of the height...but yeah i think the aggresive ones (freestyle im thinkin) would work if theyre wide enough, but i probably wouildnt pay for a set of them because theyre like just as expensive as regualr skate wheels and they may wear down quickly, im not sure...if u can find a set for free or really cheap then go for it tho, why not

okay so i'm pretty much dead set on the bones softcores from http://www.skatewarehouse.com/descpageCSHIRT-BSSCWH.html ...let's try a little reverse psychology here...instead of telling me to buy from SW, convince me i SHOULDN'T buy from them and instead buy from some other site

ummm.... dont buy from skate warehouse? it doesnt really matter where you buy them from, just look around for the best price. btw, ive heard good things about bones wheels.

Those wheels are really good. Just use SW, they are real good about shipping and prices, no more than anyother sites, but they don't stiff you on your shit. I think the wheels spenser posted are looking pretty good. And given his word, I bet they are amazing.

SPFs' are 101a. Hard for smooth 'crete. They have a new DTF (ditch tech formula) that are good soft wheels.

going back to the first post, has anyone skated the earthwing wheels?

i know they're primarily a longboard wheel, but the 56mm wheel is pretty much exactly what i'm looking for (right now it's a toss up between the EW and teh bones softcores)

do you think that the 65mm versions of those wheels will fit low trucks with risers? otherwise, are the 56's good, how do they ride?

that depends how much lower the low trucks are. i'd guess that 1/4" riser would be sufficient...maybe just maybe you'd need 3/8" but then you're better off just buying some standard trucks instead of lows

sk8sweetjumps
08-08-2007, 06:30 PM
yeah, i just want to spend as little money as possible, but ive goten wheel bite with my lows and 51's so i guess i probly should get a high truck if i want those wheels

if you're not concerned at all with aesthetics and looking goofy, you could just riser the living begeebies out of the trucks. the 3/8" was just to keep the "look" under control...but by all means, if you can get long enough hardware, you can riser it as much as you want. professional slalom racers regularly have 1/2" of flat riser with another 1/2" or soof angled

haha dude lookin goofy dont phase me at all, a while back i was riding by bike alot so all you have to do to get up liek 2 inch bumps is either ride over or manual, so i get on my skateboard and sorta forget im skateboarding and try to get up on a sidewalk that way and obviously my skate stop and i went flyin forward ahha

yeah sure, then get a TON of risers and go to town!

but seriously, has no one skated earthwing wheels?

the 56mms would work. i rode them on mids (indys) with no risers and it was fine.. but if you ride REALLY loose trucks, id get risers.

the bigger ones are actually 64s, i found out. anyway, i have those on now, and im using risers. lows with risers wouldnt work very well.

okay after talking with one of the EW team riders, it sounds like the earthwing 56mm wheels are built specifically for gripping...there's absolutely no slide in parks...i wanted a bit of slide (kinda like if anyone's ever ridden abec11 retro bertz) so i'm 95% sure i'm going with the bones softcores. Like i said before, skatewarehouse seems like a good spot, amirite? or should i call around to see if any shops have them?

Ok for anybody that are interseted in bones wheels THEY ARE NOT 101a OR 80a, (except for Bones 100s which they are rated a durometer) SO BONES ARE NO DUROMTERE RATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
they are just for the type they are made like STF for Street or SPF for Skateparks and so on.

all urethane is duro rated...the duro rating is how hard something is...i have a duro rating, you have a duro rating, your dog has a duro rating, your car has a duro rating, etc. etc. etc...it's just that bones doesn't advertise their ratings. and there is no 101 rating...it's just an ad gimmick for 100a

Black plastic core? I hope they meant urutane(sp?).
if you click out of that particular wheel and look at the rest of the autobahns, you'll see some of them have plastic cores and the rest have 101a cores (the duro rating only goes to 100...so that's bogus rating)

They have a durometer, just like their bearings have an ABEC rating. They just don't advertise it.

ricta 82a isn't 82a...it's 82d...a helluva lot harder than "a" scale.
