I'm not annoyed at it, but if you had a pro board wouldn't you want people to buy it?
Support your companys. It's not wrong buying blanks once in a while, but still support the companys who make videos for you to see pirated on YouTube.
They are losing thousands of dollars just cause of lame things like Google and YouTube, and then buying Blanks just makes it worse. The Skateboarding culture would blow up if people supported it more. Besides, who wants a plain 1 colored deck? Would you buy blank shoes?
And you notice all the new videos coming out are Promo's now? They are trying to give you stuff with their video just so you'd buy it and not watch it on YouTube..
Zero, Baker, and Lakai are doing it. I'm sure more then just them are.

You buy blanks because:
A)You are a begginer.Your learning.Your not sure if skating is your thing and you dont wanna waste 30 extra bucks for a graphic
B)You don't know anything about the companies. Why support something you know nothing about?
C) It might, just might, help them with grammar and sentence structure.

No its not. Are you gonna stop skateboarding just because noone else is?
(Assuming you said no) Thought so.

To tell you the truth, yeah I would quit. Imagine skating by yourself for at least even 3-5 years... if I got what you said, skating by yourself
Being a professional isn't even what it use to be like anyways, with everyone buying blanks and stuff, it's really bringing down companys, it's good for shops but what's keeping skateboarding alive? If it weren't for skate videos being made I can assure you you probably wouldn't even be skating.

Ya, being a pro isn't what it used to be. Now it's all about the money. It's as if the whole point of skateboarding is to turn pro.
What's keeping skateboarding alive? What kept skateboarding alive back then when skateboarding almost completely disapeared? People not like you of course
And it's like skate shops aren't important anymore too, like they're just tools used to sell skate products. Skate shops are important too.

I laughed at this part.
What kept skateboarding alive back then in the 80's was people skating with each other. You think all of them skated soley by themselves? If anyone it would be just Rodney, that's all I could think of, and I'm sure he probably doesn't.
I probably would quit skating if everyone else quit, and I'm proving to you anyone would quit. With no one around to skate with you, what's the point? Who is going to jump down a 16 stair by themselves?
And if I did, I wouldn't skate near as much nor progress as much. I just skated 5 weeks by myself, I know.
And all these companies are losing their profits, it's a proven fact. Companies like Element I'm sure are rolling in the dough because of Bam, but if everyone bought Blanks skateboarding WOULD be dead. You would of never stepped on a board if no one made skate videos, if anything you would is because of a competition you would see.. but that's about it and spread of word..
And most of that word comes from people who saw videos, and so forth. Companies are hurting, people who are professionals need to work two jobs, professional skateboarding you do NOT get that much money. Most are living off scraps in an apartment also working at another job, a real job.
People like Bam Margera are the few who can live a great rich life.

Then, in 1965, skateboarding's popularity suddenly crashed. Most people assumed that skateboarding was a fad that had died out, like the hoola hoop. Skateboard companies folded, and people who wanted to skate had to make their own skateboards again from scratch.
But people still skated, even though parts were hard to find and boards were home made.
Then skateboarding gained popularity, blah blah blah
Unfortunately, near the end of the 70's skateboarding faced its second crash in popularity.
But skaters kept skating. Through the 80's skateboarders started to built their own ramps at home, and to skate whatever else they could find. Skateboarding began to be more of an underground movement, with skaters continuing to ride, but to make the whole world thier skating grounds
People skate because of the passion, even if it's by themselves.
I do realise pros don't make as much money as we do, but so do we.

I agree, they do skate with passion.
But where is the progression? In my opinion, I don't feel a big need to push myself unless someone else can see my accomplishment and how hard I've worked for it.
Above all else landing the trick is the best feeling, but every last one of my friends have a hard time skating by themselves because it's just not near as much fun.
All those people who skated with passion skated together..
If people never skated together we'd still be doing a boneless just to get off the ground.

I tell my mommy, and that's accomplishment enough for me.
Acually, even if you skateboard by yourself, you wouldn't for long. Everyone has friends, and it's still skating if you're the only on in the gang skateboarding. Your friends (depending on what kind of people they are) would get interested, and they'd want to try it, and.............ya it goes on from there.

Meh, the thing that really got me confused is how all these videos are allowed on YouTube and full videos on Google. Isn't that Pirating?
It seems like professionals are being robbed of money everyday...except for their shoe sponsorships

It's because no skate company is going to sue a multi billion dollar company like google.
Also dude if your going to quit when everyone else does, just quit now, honestly skating is about the fun, not about progression, who cares who knows how much you've progressed, if your only skating because it's the "in" thing to do, because it's what all your friends are doing, stop.

I support skating in general by just skating and loving it. If every ****ing skate company went belly up, I wouldn't give two shits. I'd still skate. I don't even watch skate videos all the time, so the whole "you wouldn't even be skating if it weren't for videos" argument is bogus. I'm not going to go into the poor house buying $50 decks just so I can line the fat cat's pockets with my hard earned cash.

what about websites where you can get pro decks; like flip and stuff; for £35 and under? then youre getting a pro deck for the price of a blank; or maybye just a bit more; but not much more.

yeah lets all buy 50 dollar deck so i can razor tail it two days learning manuals. im sure our rich mommies and daddy's will pay for a new one in no time
corporate bitching
like that other dude said, if your gonna quit when skateboarding isnt the "in" thing to do anymore, then your skating for the wrong reasons and you might as well just quit now. companies are making enough money, support your local skateshop, and buy their shop deck cuz once element and those guys go belly up, that shop will still be there doing their shit. unless you think the only purpose of a skateshop is to sell pro decks. as long as there are people skating, and someone has a camera in hand, there will still be sick as videos to get your jollies off
seriously look at people like skaterat who have been skating since the 70's. do you think he was like o my gosh, theyre not making videos anymore, ima go play baseball. **** no

I skate because I have fun with my friends, not because it's the "in" thing to do.
The only reason at all I started as because my little nephew grabbed my board and wanted to skate it, and it had been a good 3 years since I last did it, and I wanted to teach him. Once I got back on it I never wanted to stop, just kept doing it. Also, Mike V's DRIVE show influenced me a lot.
And I know exactly what it's like skating alone, I've done it for a whole entire year, and I just did it for 5 weeks, so no, I'm not doing because it was the "in" thing you do. Infact, no one skated when I started. I got a good 7-10 people to start skating just because I did, but they aren't doing it because it's the "in" thing. And I wouldn't be skateboarding if I didn't watch DRIVE and my nephew playing Tony Hawk games.
When I skated for a year by myself, it was alot of the time really really boring, and I didn't even get past an ollie, but I still did it.
If I had to do that for 5 years I would for sure end up quitting, it would just get boring, especially alone forever. Seeing as I get the most fun out of finding spots and skating with friends at new places I find. Flatground isn't fun unless I'm by myself learning new tricks every other day just so I can learn them and consintrate. But usually when we are skating flatground together it's a game of SKATE or learning a very new hard trick..

then you have nothing to worry about, what makes you think that youll be the last one skateboarding and HAVE to quit because theres no one else. everyone skates for the love of it, and people arent going to quit just because big companies disappear
anyways, this is one of those useless discussions. buy whatever the **** you want, and dont bitch about others destroying the sport just because they dont have the money to pay for a blank deck with paint

Alot of these companies making decks are going out of business, losing profit, because they aren't getting any profit when all kids do is buy shop blanks.
No companies, no videos. It's not going to end people skating, but it will kill off companies who are trying to make a living off what they love.

The burden lies on the companies to make a quality product that makes us want to get a pro deck over a blank deck. The consumer shouldn't willingly get ****ed in the ass just to support the industry and the industry fat cats shouldn't expect it. If blank decks were low quality, cheap boards, then obviously no one would endorse those decks and more people would buy pro decks. The bottom line is, most blanks are better quality than pro boards and for half the price.

They say it all the time in magazines. Shops agree with them too.

So what gives Skateboarding companies like Element the right to make/buy blank decks and print graphics on them, but not skate shops?
BTW, the first skate companies were started when a skateshop started making their own decks.
