ive seen some kinda skinny wheels and some kinda fat wheels. does it make a difference in the way they skate? why do they make them different widths? (not the size like 54mm but the part that actually rolls on the ground.)

I've read that wider wheels spin slower because of more ground contact and friction. From what I've seen, it's not true, though. I know that people who freestyle like the wheels in line with the deck and flat.

I like thinner wheels better because ever since I changed to thin wheels I've hit less severe stop rocks, like I slow down but I still keep moving, rather than stop altogether like I got wheelbite. Just me though.
Thin wheels are lighter, and more areodynamic, but have less traction than wider wheels. They should wear out the same, maybe it seems like thin wheels wear out faster because they're more slidier and slider more.

smaller wheels are preferred for street cause u geta higher pop and the board is easier to flip and wider wheels r preferred for ramp skating cause u get more traction and the go faster

I ride 55mm wheels right now, pretty wide and I skate 85% street. It's all preferance. I hate small wheels, anything under 53 is way too small for me.

He's talking about the width of the wheels, not the height.
