View Full Version : Tre flip trick tip

I FINALLY got my Tre's down. Not everytime like I'm sure Skizzate and China Skate has them, but more or less. 6/10 I'd say.
Anywhom, I just got them consistent today when I found the trick out. I placed my back foot on the curvature of the tail, and my front foot in a pointy kind of kickflippy position. ( Like Janoski says)
Anyways, what I was doing was scooping like crazy without flipping at all and I would have to jump like 2 feet to the side to jump on top of it. Instead, what I do now is actually flip, this way it controls it and keeps it directly under me. I literally don't jump to the side at all and it just rotates under me.
So what I'm saying is IMO the front foot is very important in this trick. It seems like an obvious solution to flick it, but I learned to Tre before I could Varial flip, so I learned it the hard way.
Sorry for bad grammar in a hurry.

Yeah, I cant do Tre's.. but I heard the front foot aint do shit. I can spin em kinda, but cant ever land on em. Maybe when you explain yourself better, I too can learn Tre's before varials :-)

Haha actually me too. I av' em' pretty consistant, but they're hella ugly cause i gotta just to the side too. I'll try it though, thanks for the tip.

No problem. Okay, now I'll try and explain myself better.
I don't know if you've ever tried a varial flip without doing much with your front foot. Just point it and scoop and although it'll work, you have to jump to the side.
You'll find, if you maintain the strength in your scoop for a Varial, and Flip so that you actually feel your front foot nice and firm coming off the board like you would for a kickflip, it should stay under you.
Your front foot guides the trick.
Same thing for a Tre flip. Now when you go out and try this, you might see it won't work at first, because what you'll be doing is focusing on the flip and adding little to no scoop. Then vice versa. When you can train your brain to add the straight, forward flip in there and maintain that good all around scoop, you should be fine.
Now, before I get any Tre experts jumping on me telling me " I can Trizzay w/0ut Fr0nt foot!!" I realize that it is very possible to do so. I used to land them not flipping out at all either. This is just a tricktip to keep it under you.
So remember, flip counts! And it adds steeze points, so get out there and try it!
EDIT: I recommend 360 Flip adventures by Stefan Janoski, and watching the 360 Flip tricktip by Pat Duffy. Neither explain good, but they give good foot positioning tips, and show you how they should be done.

Slyde's tip might not work for everyone. i honestly think that the only way someone can learn how to keep tre flips under them is by practice. tre flips are done sooo many ways by different people and one way might not work for other people. this might work for some people, but its not a good chance. the easiest way is just to do them over and over untill you figure out how to do it the best way for yourself. Slyde, this is not to ruin your thread, i am just saying what i think. and i also think that whoever wants to try Slyde's tip should, because it did work for him and it might for you, all im saying is there isnt a good chance of it because the only way to really learn how to get tre flips to stay under you is just practice IMO.
DCskater, you are worrying to much about the flip. you need to concintrate (sp?) more on the scoop.

What's (sp?)
And yeah I do focus on the flip more. When I don't flick out like I usually do then it is harder for me to land because it either goes too much out in front of me or too much behind me so I land it in nollie.. But yeah I will practice them more.

(sp?) means i dont know how to spell the word. and yeah, to get the board to stay under you, you just need to do them over and over to practice and get used to it and it will start staying under you.

Yeah I will practice them. I haven't really been practicing them at all really.

Hahaha, same thing some kid on my team said.
Lucky I agree with you aswell. I just thought I should put it out there and try to end as much frustrated skater's mysery as I could. It bugged me to learn them! That's the longest time it's ever taken me to learn a single trick! ( 2 1/2 months now)
I wish you all the best of luck learning these! It takes a while but you'll be satisfied. Plus it's a fun trick to do.

Ok I just got back from a 1-2 hour session mainly just doing 360 flips. I figured out that if I shift my weight back at least half a second before I pop then the board will be scooped out in front of me a little bit. That solved the landing on the nose thing. As for my problem now I need to practice catching them.

When you scoop/pop, you need to scoop it forwards towards your nose. Many people don't realise that, but it keeps it under you and ahead of you enough so you don't land to the side of it or on the nose. I also keep my front foot pretty far up the board, it makes for a more controlled flick and a lesser flick so it doesnt over flip. I love treflips soo much. Just fun to do. They took me sooo long to learn, atleast a whole summer. And just like a year or two ago, have I perfected them.

No problem bro. I hope I get to help as mush skaters as possible.
Maybe even make "The Official 360 Flip Thread" or something like that.
I forgot to mention, like someone previously mentioned, sometimes it helps if you lean back a little bit.
If you're having problems getting the full rotation, try winding up a little bit before the trick also.

Slyde you got footy of your 360flips?
I do, but the thing is that the camera we have for our team, it is VERY old. It's one of those that can't upload to a computer, and it doesn't even delete footage.
That's why we practice alot on our lines, so it doesn't take us as long to nail it.
When my dad gets here this weekend (He doesn't live with me) I'll use his camera-phone and get some footy of it.
