lol this is a really dumb question but w/e, ill ask it anyways. Are there any better ways to stop than to keep hopping along with your board? I heard some people jump sideways and slide but that messes up your wheels. I have also heard that some people step down on the tail with their back foot and let their heel but not the tail scrape the ground to a stop. And one more thing, is the tail supposed to touch the floor while ollieing?

do that oot hopping thing, or curve alot (like in that "forever young" video clip lol, thats filmed in Sydney!) and curve your whole weight to one side. or do that foot to ground thing. And yeah, your tail touches the ground during Ollie's, otherwide you'll do one off a waist high Ledge, and fall sideways.. like my good mate.

If you can, try to not drag the tail of your board to stop. If you do, you'll wear it down in quick. Next thing you know, you've got razor tail and it will start to chip away.
You can stop by dragging your foot that rides on the tail, or by pitching a few slides, or by making long, wide, sweeping turns if space allows. You can also jump or step off your board. Unfortunately, you'll wear your wheels and shoes doing slides and foot-dragging. However, if you get comfortable with all the above, you'll get more mileage out of all your gear.
Try to save your tail so you can smack it firm when you learn to ollie

1. hit the brakes
2. skate off a cliff
3. brick wall
4. jump off?
5. listen to emo music and eat a bowl of cereal
just kidding. just skid your tail or put your foot down.
but i prefer #5...

To stop (quickly)
1. Jump off and run (usually when you're going really fast, or too fast to do anything else)
2. Step off (what I usually do, I step off and pop the tail down)
To slow down (to a stop, or just to slow down)
1. Slide your foot on the ground
2. Stomp your foot down and quickly lift it (what I usually do)
3. Carve (turning, usually in a snaking motion)
Advanced
1. Powerslide (forcing your board to turning and sliding, kinda like this: click here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZ1CTTPRiiE)

To slow down a little bit at a time I put my toes over the rail bend my knees and hop backwards a bit. It wont stop from hitting a wall but it will help if you mess up your timing.

take your pushing foot off hte board and GENTLY press it on the ground...this is called footbreaking. footbreaking is your friend if you go fast

Well what I do is something that really isn't to good for your shoes.
It looks like your razor tailing your board, but really you aren't.
You ride and slowly lean back, like your manualing, and your backfoot instead of pointing straight, you make your body and your back foot go on an angle I guess you can say, and you have the heal drag on the ground as you slowly turn.
I don't know if that makes sense.
But to help more, watch the very beginning of Nike- On Tap, P-Rod does it in the beginning right after it shows the bike going by and he's about to enter the record store or whatever.

It looks so much better than my powerslides in that link. Lawl. I can't help but bend down so far I'm nearly sitting on my board.

I usually do a powerslide 180 and then pop the tail up fakie if I'm learning a trick on a ledge or rail or something, otherwise I do the same thing as Sk8 Shorty's.

I just footbreak. Its easeir but it doesn't help when you are going fast.
as for the ollying thing, yes, the tail is suppose to touch the ground. Otherwise it cant pop.

Wait; Powerslides mess up your wheels!? I've always done that, and I never noticed anything with my wheels except for a little scratching on the bottom. Does it do damage to trucks too?

You'll wear down the wheels a bit faster than simply skating, and might eventurally get flat-spots from doing slides. Kind of a similar result as to using a pencil's eraser. Nothing to worry, though, as you can get flat-spots on your wheels from doing tons of tricks that aren't "powerslides."
I highly doubt is damages your trucks.
