Ok... i used a disk to upgrade a computer in my room fron 98 to XP. i was wondering if i could use that same disk over again. the main thing is what happens if i get a used comp that has 2000 on it and i use the same disk to put xp on it. it says that if i do not register within 30 days the O/S will no longer be able to be used.. does that mean that if i do not activate it in 30 days then the comp will be locked or will it downgrade back to 2000? please help me

i tried this with windows 98, upgrading to xp pro. when you don't activate it, it'll stay as windows xp but it won't let you log in until you punch in the number from microsoft.

Yup use the disk as many times as you want it is still the software only thing that stops the software is the registration keys, which should come with the disk and can be used on multiple computers as long as you don't register it online I believe, and even if you don't get the key to work just go on like and look for a key generator or some random ones that what I did a few computers ago...don't hate on me microsoft I was young and ignorant!

ok, to end this discussion:

yes, you can use your windows xp disk more than once, and in fact as many times as you want. just one thing to keep in mind is to register your windows cd-key as you are formatting the hard drive. if you decide to do it after you format windows on the hard drive, it will keep popping up in a bubble in the corner, and when you try to register then, it makes you register online, and it can track that you've used the cd-key before, so it tells you the cd-key is incorrect. although, you can call microsoft and make up a bullshit excuse and say "i purchased windows xp with my dell computer and i reformatted and i'm trying to activate windows but it won't let me, it's my first time reformatting" and act like a complete computer-illiterate person like a huge percentage of the population and get away with it, which is usually what i end up doing. it's kind of a hassle, so just activate windows as you are formatting the hard drive.

ok.. just one question. When does it ask you to activate it when you are formatting the drive

Surprisingly, I don't think so. I think once you log in for the first time it does.
