So many people believe Skateboarding was invented in Cali when the waves were low, or that scooter thing lost its bars, right? Well here in Australia, I've heard a different theory..

Texel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texel); the last battle place of the second world war in Europe, where fighting continued after the surrender of Germany.

The Nazi's who invaded Georgia gave them a choice; "join us (pick up a uniform) or DIE!! (execution camp mate!)".. hmm.. the ones who joined (betrayers) got sent to Texel..

Anyho, the story goes that as the war was ending, the Texelian Georgians or whatever saw the Nazis werent gonna win, so they decided to form an uprising, coz if they got sent back to Georgia.. Those Soviets wouldnt be very kind. So they rebelled! "uhh, yeah, we did an uprising in Texel.. that was our plan all along" would sound nicer I guess.. so they betrayed the Soviets then mutinied the Nazis. "the deepest circle of hell is reserved for betrayers, and mutineers." - Johnny Depp

So while they were getting extracted, everyone was bored, so some smart great grandfather of the person whose story this is nicked some cow milking device, and rode it behind the battery they were stationed at, to starve off the time. theres a grainy picture in the Texel war memorial of a guy, one foot in front of the other riding down the hill with two guys cheering him on apparently.

So then when the 50's came he tried to patent his Skate board all around Europe, but without success..

What d'yall think of this story? I'd believe it.... but it would be soo much easier to believe if I see the picture.

ps. Another side to Skateboarding history is that Bennett made the first trucks for Skateboarding, NOT tracker. tracker calls the shit on Bennet coz Bennett spelt it "truks" so they wouldnt have to get a Patent license from the Chicago roller Skate truck company.. No wonder the first model was called the hijacker.

bennetts and trackers are both really good trucks...i personally prefer tracker...that's just me though

i'm not gonna debate who was first, but i think tracker did a better job. hell, it wasn't until just recently that bennett still used rubber (not urethane) for their bushings. i'd like to see tracker get more involved with street skating again, as opposed to the longboard/retro scene they're involved in now

I used to ride Bennetts back in the day, they worked good but had plastic baseplates that always broke.

I'd like to see a shot of that guy on the first skate your reffering too.

They were made to turn man, theres nothing wrong with that :-6:

Well the world is too big (relative to me, and everyone else), and there are too much people in the world to say one person invented something first before everybody else. These days it's usually the first person to get a patent gets the credit.

wikipedia is by no means 100% accurate...in fact, some times it is blatantly WRONG.
i do know there was a chicago company that made trucks for roller skates, the same trucks that were eventually transplanted onto a 2x4 and started the evolution of the modern skateboard.
i do know, however, that either tracker or bennett had the first skateboard-specific trucks, and that tracker TO THIS DAY makes rollerskate components

and "the search for animal chin" was a video...i think it came out in the early 80's...i'm not 100% sure on that though...might've been the late 70's

The Chicago Roller Skate Truck Company patented the Roller Skate Truck in 1935.. Since Mr Bennett didn't want to pay credits for a patenting license, he called them SKateboard truks instead.
Then tracker came out and paid the patent.. so thats why both claim to be the first to make that turny thing that goes on your Skateboard, by any name.

i'm pretty sure i heard this story in an artice in "the skateboard mag." don't know if it's true but they have a picture of someone riding what looks to be a skateboard. it's all pixelated though, so it's hard to be sure.

To be truthful, I don't give a shit who made it, just that I'm grateful they did. :P
