Ok, I got my ollies down pretty well flatground and iam ready to take them to the stairs. What I want to know is how fast do you gotta be to ollie over stairs?
If i try to ollie at my top speed, it's kinda harder for me to successfully land it and i get less air, but, i can land it perfectly and have good height when i go regular speed.
So can i ollie stairs with regular speed or does it have to be the fastest everytime?

It can be regular speed. Don't over do yourself because that can just make it ugly. But don't go to slow because you probably won't clear the set.
Just use common sense.

bigger set = more speed
smaller set = less speed

yeah. start off small and work your way up on stairs. you dont have to go very fast for like a 3 stair so start off with something like that, then just start doing more. you will get the hang of it and will be able to tell how much speed you need.

well, speed depends on the size. take run-ups to the set and see if you think the speed you had is enough to clear it. in mid air you'll have a pretty good idea of if you'll clear the set or not, and if you definantly aren't going to clear it you will cop out, or throw the board away.. or at least that's with me.
sometimes my friends take tries just for that purpose, and they just ollie and purposely cop out, to see if it was enough speed. i don't encourage it, because it's just dumb to do it purposely, and you could look like a complete moron if you do a trick and cop out and hurt yourself.

you can also bone your ollies out too...if you got less speed.. like push yourboard out..thats if well you think your going slow and think you still can make it..
look at some of ernie torres stuff..off the real video...one push and switch ollie a nice sized set..

Sometimes^. Speed can also make things look super sloppy.

work your way up from curbs
mm... i probably go just a little faster than normal for a 5 set, usually i just have one BIG push and then position myself
anyway yea if you work your way up from curbs you'll get used to ollying down things at a speed... try drawing a line about a foot away from the curb and try and clear it.. when you're happy more on to the next couple of steps
good luck..

Try different speeds.
Find the one your most comfortable with.
Make sure you can land a good clean ollie at that speed.
If your not gonna make it over the stairs, you'll know it.
