I haven't been around for a couple months but I wanted to ask you guys something... I'm sure most of the northern people on this forum have snow covering the ground everywhere now and I was wondering what you guys do about that? I don't have a garage and there is no indoor skatepark, and the only one that there is is a 20 minute drive each day with a fee and helmet. So I was wondering is there a fast way to melt all the snow in one area on a road and make it dry to skate? I want to skate really bad, and I don't want to wait forever untill I see a dry patch that may never appear or is super far away. I want to make a dry area of about 15x15 feet at least. I thought of shuveling this patio and then put hot water all over it so it melts the snow left and makes a sheet of ice. Then I was going to put salt on it or chip it off. The only problem with that I saw is it would take awhile and if it snows I need to do it all over again..

So any tips or what do you guys do and would my idea work? It's about 20 degrees out right now so you know. And I need this dry, wet grip is bad.

Thanks for your help!

I hardly get any snow because i live in the valley of southern california. Whenever it rains i just pracitice tricks and stuff on the carpet.
What i would do is just shovel the snow off the driveway or wherever it is you wanna skate and skate there. I wouldn't put hot water there because i dont know how long it will take to dry. I dont thinks its possible to dry an area but you could try if you like

We got about 25cms of snow up here in southern Canada, which sucks. I heard northern USA got it pretty bad too.

Try shoveling a patch, and waiting until that dries.

Good ol' south west, I don't have to deal with that problem. But I know how you feal, I used to live in Maine. I would shovel that area, then put salt or something so if/when your parents walk by it, they don't slip.

Do you have a concrete driveway?

Do nothing. Play video games, watch movies, make love. Whatever. Closest indoor park to me is 45 minutes away with a $15 fee and helmets. Just wait for it to dry up eventually or find someone with a garage, basement, shed.. anything like that will work. But you will not be able to make it dry up outside for it to be worth your time. Right now we have about 8 inches and its blowing 25+ mph out. Hopefully we can get a snowday tomorrow.

Lol, 8"? Yeah, you'll be getting a snowday. If not, that's ****ed up. I got a snowday last year (when I lived in Maine) for like 2" of snow.

i finally realized that instead of fighting the snow just deal with it. don't skate. i've been playing counter-strike and shit whenever it's shitty out. chillin inside. it's not that bad. once the snow goes, and the weather gets warm, shits gonna be nice. can't wait for christmas either.

8" for a snow day? here in colorado, it has to be like 2.5 feet for a snow day.

for your problem just get a winter hobby. and then you will want to skate that much more when the spring comes around.

just basically chill. you'll find that as soon as you've scooped it out and started to skate, it will get covered over again like the next day.....just do stuff inside.

It's not just because of the snow, it's also because of the ice. Last week it was barely a couple of cms, but it was a snow day anyways because there was a lot of ice on the roads.
We had a snow storm a few days ago plus freezing rain, but for some reason school wasn't cancelled though.

Well us too, but if it's super cold and they can't get the snow/ice off the roads we'll get a snowday with only 6''. Oh well, we didn't get one.

Haha I don't think I've ever had a snowday, even when it is 2 feet the schools are open.

I was supposed to have a snow day, never happend. We got like a few inches and its kind of annoying. I wait two days then skate. Watch out for sand and salt ruining your bearings. But anyways I just do this, either the day it snows or whatever I shovel off a spot on my street or just be lazy. Then I wait a day and usually i skate it. The winter is all about flatground. The best place to skate is streets with medium amounts of traffic. It dries up the road quickly and works out well. Work what you got.....

-thank you

It seems like if I don't keep skating and I'm sitting on my ass for 3-5 months doing nothing I'm not getting any better at skating and possibly worse. It kills me and I can't just get on my board and push down the street as fast as I can. To me it's like a alchoholic who can't take a drink but sees everyone else doing it. (To me seeing everyone else doing it is skate videos that I'm trying to stay away from)

Seems like you can only use a friend's garage, snowskate, or a parking garage.

I found a huge patch of dry concrete then the next day it snowed again and is all slush. It's like I get slapped in the face, lol. Snowboarding is way way to expensive when I'm trying to get new shoes, wheels, and an xbox 360.

I go sledding. It's fun. My friend has a sled that resembles a snowboard, and we have some fun with that.

We have. In Charlottetown. You probably don't remember, it was in 2nd grade. We had about 3 feet of snow, I had to crawl out of my window and shovel the front door inorder to get out. It was fun.

I just basically rough it out. Play games and hang out and stuff.

ahhaha. We got about 6 feet here last year in about a week, sometime in late Jan/early Feb. Oswego, about a 45 min drive away got 12ft of snow, no shit. It was epic and got us like a week off of school because it was also very cold. I bet Chinaskate had something similar like that lastyear.

Was that when they had to call in the army to help shovel snow or something, I kinda remember something like that. I was going over to Douglas's cause he just got like a playstation for Christmas and I was disappointed because there was too much snow to go there.

we got ten inches up here a few weeks ago and now its blowing snow on and off. luckily ive got a friend who doesnt use her garage and i can skate in there. But try to find an overhang at like a church or a school there might be a little bit of snow that you can simply sweep or shuvel away. most of the schools and churchs here have overhangs here, otherwise have a friend of yours hide out in your school and after the night janitors leave have him open the door and skate that shit up. we have also done that as well

Just snowed 10 inches....Im kinda pissed because no one shoveled anything and the plows arent doing shit. I helped my friend make 25 bucks last night but I dont need it. I used to think snow was wicked awsome but now its wicked in the sense of the non north east term.

.

Here in holland we don't have snowdays at all. Ok fair enough...it never really snows that much, but when it does snow like a mother****er (once every so many years) those pricks just tell us to find a way to get to school. Anyway...when it does snow here any kind of outdoor activity is screwed...no garage, no indoor parks in this region, nothing.

I hate it when you just spent an hour shovelling your diveway and sidewalk, and then a snow blower truck comes along and covers your driveway.
It always happens to me.

Scharkey
12-15-2007, 04:16 AM
Greenday when they do that, I shuvel half way into the street so I don't get much in my driveway.

Right now I have tons of dry spots to skate but it was like -15 with wind chill so my body can't even move properlly lol and it is night so fast
