pcs have more games and programmes.. but way more viruses, worms, etc.
macs have less games but are better for things like design and professionals

I use a mac when i'm doing design work for college or for paid work. Use a PC for everything else, though i don't have my own mac so when working at home i just use windows.

PC: Oh, nothing, just playing one of those newly released games.
Mac: Oh, really? Which one!
Pc: Uhhh, any.
Mac: Oh...
PC: Yeah...
Mac: Right...

I'd rather use Windows, mainly because more than half of the things out there are meant for windows, and not macs, and since I've been using windows for my entire life I think it's easier to use (but what do I know? I'm just an average guy who does't know a thing about editing and proffessional stuff)
Also becuse I don't like apple too, easpecially their ipods, but that's something else.
Did anyone hear about the new macbook air? I think its a load of garbage, apple is focusing way too much on making the thinnest thing out there. It's so thin there aren't any CD drives in it, you have to use another computer's CD drive to transfer anything over, which sucks. I don't get why everyone is going crazy over it, saying "it's the best" and such. Sure, maybe to os is good but without a CD drive it's pretty useless for anything that needs a CD drive.

macs are used for more proffesional sutff but overall i really prefer pc because i have used it all my life. I just got a dell laptop and it is really nice. And as long as you do a virus scan ever sunday.. then normally you can avoid the viruses. Thats what i do and i have never had any problems.. except my home computer has so many viruses but i rarely use that anymore since i got my laptpo

yea. Didnt read this post before but that is very true. I do not like mac because they really focus on have the smallest and thinnest laptops ever. The truth is in size (not thickness) they have the widest width i have ever seen in my entire life. But it seems that every pro. editing company i see uses them so they must be really nice for that type of thing.

Well my dad works at a printing/design firm, so he brought home a mac in maybe 1994 or 95 and that's what I've been using ever since

At college, the whole art department is stocked with brand new MacPros with 25" screens. Animations and film professors both have duel 30" screens.
Those are by far the most badass computers I have ever used. PCs are great, but if I could choose between the two, I'd go with the Mac. I'd miss my FPS, but there is plenty to do otherwise.

its a piece of shit, doesnt even have a cd-rom. and its a s wide as it is thin....

well, cd roms are seriously going to become obsolete within the next few years. or, at least, i personally think they are.
i'm sure that soon HDDVDs/Blu-ray discs will become the standards, even for things like software and games.
so in a sense you're right, but right now i don't think it's cost-efficient enough for companies to start adding in blue-ray/hd drives into their systems.

I don't care about size, it's the functionality that I care about.
No CD drive wtf? You HAVE to buy an external drive if you need one (which just about everyone does), transfering things over wirelessly is useless, you can only install programs and applications that way, you cant burn, rip, or do anything else with it, you can't even play dvd or CD disks this way, so you can't use it as a portable dvd/cd player (not that you'd want to anyway though, since youre tied to another computers drive unless you have the external drive)
There's only one usb port wtf? If you buy the external drive you've just ran out of usb ports, because the drive takes up one usb port. Sure, you can take it out but what if you're burning a cd or dvd, and you need to do something else that needs a usb port, like pluging a device (mp3, thumb drvie, ect), you're screwed then.
Five hours of battery...I'm not even gonna go there, it's not even removable.
My point, the macbook air sucks **** compared to every other laptop. Every other laptop has a cd drive which can do everything needed, has at least 2-3 usb ports and a bit more battery life than the air, and their batteries are even removable, for half the price too. The air sacrifices functionality expected in most laptops for thiness and looks.

Plus, since it only has one usb drive as you pointed out, say you put in the external cd drive or w/e so you can play cd's or dvd's...well then where do you put the mouse if you wanna use that instead?
mcwattersm
02-01-2008, 03:24 PM
... its a laptop!
The mouse is built in.
Sk8 Shorty's
02-01-2008, 03:38 PM
yeah and it's crap
that's why you see a lot of people use mouses and plug it into the usb drive
but in this new mac laptop, how will you be able to do that huh?
you cant cause the one and only drive you'll end up having to use when you plug the external cd drive into it.

i love macs but the macbook air looks ridiculous. its just another product that apple is putting out to blow peoples minds. i think they know no one will want it, it might just be a way to get people to recognize macs more. like those mac vs. pc commercials, some people didnt even know they were talking about computers.
the macbook (normal is great though).
im getting one very soon.
