mikejl29 i will make a post of prices for vx2000 they are actually cheaper then the gl1-2, well at some places here are 2 comparisons i got off www.camcorderinfo.com
Just thought I would add my experience with the GL2 and VX2000 (and TRV950). I purchased the GL2 and VX2000 and evaluated them for about three days before deciding on the VX2000.
I REALLY wanted to like the GL2 and I did but it could not touch the VX2000 for indoor shots and lower light shots. Now I am not talking about shooting in the dark, I am talking about shooting in an indoor setting like a standard living room at night (no extra light from the sun).
The larger ccds on the VX2000 make a huge difference. I loved the GL2 color and the picture in excellent light. But when trying to film my kids indoors or shooting in a hospital room (child birth etc) the VX2000 blows away the GL2.
Just to let you know, I also own the TRV950 due to its small size and amazing picture quality in good light. I find that the GL2 is a bit better in lower light than the TRV950 but that the TRV950 has a higher resolution picture when shooting outdoors. Actually I like the TRV950 resolution better than the VX2000 when shooting outside (lots of light).
These are my observations from actual use. Hope this helps.
this next one i did because i live near a major city and i wanna go watch this
Great discussion going on here! For those of you that live in or near a major US city, you can see the Canon GL2 in action at a free seminar we're hosting. The DV Revolution Free Seminar Tour is presented by DVcreators.net and is sponsored by Canon, Pinnacle, Intel, Discreet and others.
Come see how lighting and filters can make a huge difference in your footage. Learn how to adjust the controls on the GL2 to make your footage look like a million bucks. We'll also edit the footage and show how to compress a project for the web and DVD. Best of all it's free! More info at http://www.editionplanet.com
i need it for the compressing
Try first, that is always the best bet. From GL-2 owners I hear that the GL-2 is definitely better than the GL-1. I have used a GL-2 for about a half-hour and it is noticably better than the Gl-1.
As far as special features goes, who cares? Sepia, neg art, all that can be done in post. A shewd videographer will perform those effects in post so he will always have the orginal, unaltered footage for future projects.
Nobody is going to like the zooms on any of these cameras. These lenses are fly-by-wire which means manual zoom commands the zoom motor to turn and has no mechanical linkage. If you want a true manual lens, you are going to have to get either a XL-1 or JVC GY500 and buy a manual lens.
Battery life is new to me. I know if you have a the flip-out LCD on it eats batteries.
There are a truckload of people who love to start flame wars over these cams. There have even been a few that critize a cam and never owner or used one! All of the 3-chippers are pretty darn good. Only you can determine which is best for you.
If you know little about videography, take the time to learn about exposure, shot composition, and audio...then go look.
Hope this helps
