i know this might be a stupid question, but how exactly does a skate stopper look like? I've never heard of those and i'm not even sure if they have them in chicago

they're just little knobs or squares of metal that they weld to a rail so you can't grind on them, like this:

Also they are placed at the top and bottom of stair sets so you cannot skate them. Like this:

*searches google*

Can't find any. So I will describe. They are basically just like strips of concrete or something at top and bottom of the set with bumpy knobs (don't laugh) so that it is difficult to run over them.

My school has the most sexiest ledges I have ever seen in front of it......only they have those ugly skate stoppers built into them. I hate skate blockers.

watch skate videos.
they can be shaped like octopi even.
anything placed somewhere to make something unskateable.

but anyway, what do you mean "who" will enforce it?

lol, not gonna happen, and how would u build a skate spot out of recycled skate stoppers?

You wont get it, unless you get a crazy amount of signatures or something along with it.

And internet petitions don't really work since people can post to them multiple times pretty easily. So I presume the government would just ignore that unless they're written.

Even if you DO manage to get them removed theres little to no chance they will use them to make skate parks.

Good luck anyway :D

it could backfire resulting in a total ban of skateboarding. but skate stoppers are really dangerous. we in Sydney have the sharp corner ones. imagine if some kid walking by falls on them? no more supermodel dreams..

plus what happened to freedom? American freedom shouldnt be about people persuing recreational activities in designated areas, pfft..

You do realise those are called blind bumps and are actually to make sure blind people realise that there are stairs.

Yeah, but they just happen to be good skate stoppers and now they put them on like every stair set.

Really?! :-12: I never knew that!!!!
Thanks haha. I've learnt something :)
But they still make good speed stoppers haha. Well, they have them on the entrances to the skate park. And I don't think a blind person would be going there...hmmmm! Ah well :)

Ya know, if you write a letter, it isn't going to Bush. Send it to the councilor of your ward in your city, its your best bet, but they'll probably ignore you too.

I sent a huge essay type letter to the councilor of the ward I live in and it was ignored.

They have little mettal balls or bolts purposefully bolted into the benches and ledges around where i live
must be pretty painful to sit on

and also i'd just like to add...they're not just there to stop skateboarders the "skatestoppers" or "Blind Bumps", "pimple strips" or "lego blocks" are acctually mainly there at the top or bottom of stairs, ledges drops ect. to aid blind people.

but i agree they are annoying

...there is a type of mould thing with is like a plastic/and or metal mould exactly the oposate to the blind bumps so you can set them up and ride straight over them

pretty sure they sell them in skate shops...

is not it's a good business idea

the only place around where I live that has skate stoppers is FSU, but thats the only real good spot other than a park....and thos blind things I doubt that that is there actual intention...A blind person would have to feel the rail before the knobs.....also my mother is blind and she has never heard of them.....those pros that can skate around them mostly do it by grinding and then either transitioning around or jumping over the stoppers.....which is allot more difficult than it sounds I'm sure

No, jumping whilst on a rail to land back on the rail sounds just as hard as it actually would be :P

The skate blockers at my school aren't held down by screws. They're put in as the cement was drying, and they most likely have grooves or something underneath to keep them down. The most you will ever do is bend the sides up a little bit, but even if you take them off you can't grind them because it'll never come off completly. I hate my school, its really new so they learned from the mistakes of other placeas.

my school doesnt have them....but most of the walls are brick so it's not as good as it could be....I mostly either skate at my church, or behind the library when I want to grind something....but that is such a long walk/ride (I can only ride the last kilometer or so) that when I feel like flatland or don't feel like the walk I just skate on the road near my house

the ideas good but it isnt resonable there isnt enough of them to build one lol plus the spots would just get skated on once they remove them... your basically just waisting cement and metal lol

Im putting this out there but the skate stoppers are there because you shouldn't be skating on someones private property and causing damage. Yeah it sucks but it's true.

Hears a caption froma mag
"You should've heard this jam me and Garrett had on the guitars! This lead thing he did is still stuck in my head. **** you, Skate Stoppers."

Garrett Hill was 5-0ing a ledge next to the rail. Looks much better to me. Yay for skate stoppers. Okay, I still hate them.

Dude, you are awesome!

This is a really awesome idea, and i think you could make some pretty valid points...

for instance -

If we had more public skate spots, we wouldn't skate where we aren't allowed to.

pretty good huh?

anyways! keep being awesome. im gonna go skate. :)
