Skateboarder Collides With Truck, Dies - Sacramento News Story - KCRA Sacramento (http://www.kcra.com/news/17766578/detail.html?rss=sac&psp=news)
LOOMIS, Calif. -- A 16-year-old died Monday after colliding with a flatbed truck while skateboarding, the California Highway Patrol said.
Officer Kelly Baraga said three boys were skateboarding, and one boy was riding a bike, down a hill on Pleasant Oak Court near Cambridge Estates at about 4:30 p.m.
Two of the three skateboarders collided with a Chevrolet flatbed truck at an intersection at Ashley Creek Drive.
Due to a hill, the skateboarders and the driver could not see each other before they collided, officials said.
Peter Ramirez, 16, was pronounced dead at the scene, and Nicholas Ronzani, 15, was taken by ambulance to Sutter Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, Baraga said.
Chaplains responded to the scene to provide grievance counseling, CHP officials said.
Officials said the truck driver, who was questioned and released, does not appear to be at fault. His truck was impounded to check for any mechanical issues.
No drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash, Baraga said.
Officials said all of the teenagers were wearing protective gear, including helmets and gloves.
