Hey all. The other day I had to have my little surgery downtown. I was driving through there, and PERFECT stairs w/ handrails from 1 stair, up to 15 stairs! I Found PERFECT gaps and ledges from 1 ft high, to nearly 10 feet high! There is MEGA ledges that are perfectly smooth, Perfect run-ups on ledges, and drop-offs...and killer stairs!!!! The thing about this is, skating downtown is ILLEGAL. The skating there is the BEST I've ever seen in my life. On t.v...etc...it's killer. I knew it was good, but not as good as it really is. I'm thinking in 2-3 weeks, me and a friend, will drive down there with the camcorder and our boards. We'll run out, try the trick 1-4 times, then get the helll out of there. Anyone think this is a good/bad idea? I normally wouldn't do such a thing, but you can't help it when you're deprived of great skating! I am about 80% sure I'll do it, but I'm going to get a map of the area, to make sure we aren't arrested. What I'd like to do, get a map....and just go point to point....on a schedule. Anyways..I wanted to get your all's opinions on that. Also, is it illegal in any of your kick ass spots? (As in, there is posted signs by the government, not private owners)....If so...I say you do the same. Go hit it quick, and get lost!
Note: I'll get pictures of the area sometime, but it'll be like 50+ pics...I counted at least 40 sets of stairs.....

ok, try to avoid skating by the posted signs, and if you get caught, tell them you're from out of town, and you didnt know. say sorry alot, and walk away before they have a chance to arrest you. if you act very nice and sorry, they'll probably leave you alone, but with a warning. and yes, dont stay in one spot too long

bah, I've already mastered the art of kissing cop ass, lol. I always have one stop by and just say 'so whats going on'...and I always get away..with doing something like this...
Cop: So what's going on?
Me: Nothing much, just skateboarding...am I not supposed to be? If not I'm sorry....
Cop: no no its fine...just don't ruin anything, lots of kids around here do that
Me: Oh, I didn't know about that...should I go to a different area?
etc...that's from like last month, lol..was skating at a church. As far as skating near signs, that's impossible...they're litterly everywhere. At the local shop, the owner used to ride for Independent as he told me (or spitfire...one of em). I got my board, and told him I was having kickflip trouble (I was a beginner). He goes outside on the sidewalk, and kickflips perfect. He then is like 'lets get inside, it's illegal to skate out there...don't wanna lose your new board'...

WOAH that sucks majorly... ya know what would really piss em of, find the city mayor/whatever and have him/her sit down on a bench(neer a ledge) for like a photoshoot and go behind him/her and ollie over him/her... that would be cool...... but yeh that sucks a lot...is there no skating signs right in front of the skatshop?? how is that possible.... that must suck a whole lot, i have another *brilliant* idea.... if the city wont let you skate, find a bcnh of skaters/leave one @ the skatesop to sign a petition to have the town build a skatepark... say if you dont want the skaters thrashin the city, have he ciy biuld a skatepark so you wont have to.

That's the thing...people DID complain, and they DID build a skatepark. It's kick ass..dont' get me wrong...but it CAN'T beat the downtown skating. There is a sign in front of the skateshop, ironically. They're all over. I don't care that much, I'll nail some spots sometime..just run over to it...do it real quick, then leave.

this is exactly what id do.......
1)go down to the spot
2)get some film for like 10 minutes and then leave
3)go to another spot
and repeat this untill you got enough film, try to pick spots that areent too close to each other.
if you decide to go to another spot dont just run down the street, drive 2 blocks over.
this would be what i'd do if i was in your situation but unfortuanately...my mom wont let me touch the cam corder, i cant drive, there isnt many illegal spots(wait athats a good thing!), and i cant skate nearly as well as you

Tell me about it! Anyways...I'll do it someday..so it's all good! Luckily...there are some nice spots just outside of downtown...so I think I could get those fairly easy, without being hassled.

If you got enough skill to even slide an INCH on a 'huge rail', then you aren't a beginner, thus leaving controversy. If I ollied off a 30ft roof, of course I'd fall, but that doesn't make me a beginner. Anyways...onto the topic...I don't do handrails, so I'm not worried much about the stairs. I'm just wanting to drive around with a friend..maybe go when it begins to get dark or something.

I disagree with skating where you shouldn't be. There are always places that you are allowed to skate, and you said that you have a nice park nearby anyways. Take a good hard look at what you are wanting to do.
Yes, I understand that there are nice places to skate that you really want to try, but if there are signs, or if it is private property, we should respect that. They all have different reasons, ranging from lawsuits, injury, and thinking that people skating on their property is bad for business. The truth is though, they dont have to supply a reason, its their land.
Some of the reason many places are closed to skaters is because of the reputation that we carry. Do you think this makes you any different from the people who got us that reputation in the first place? What does it look like to 'normal' people? They will see you and a few friends get out of a car with boards and a camera, run up and try some tricks, then run away in your car. That looks horrible, and it just proves to the uninformed that their assumptions are correct.
Do what you want, but I dont agree with it.
