find a comfortable seat and enjoy this little adventure i had:
today, me and some kids i picked up (i have a truck) were skating in a retirement community for the FIRST time that had lots of old people and 4 sets and 5 sets. so me and these kids start skating there and after about 10 minutes two old men, one looked about 65 and the other looked about 78, came toward us just piping mad (apparently they had it with skateboarders in their apartments. some of the skaters who had been there before weren't too nice to the residents, lets leave it at that). anyway, the older guy came straight toward me and just grabbed my shirt and started twisting it to get a better grip and kept asking me my name, how old i was and that i was going to jail. (there WERE "no tresp***ing" signs but since we jumped a fence, we didn't see them.) so in my efforts to free myself from this man's grip (he was drunk by the way) i wrapped my arm around his arms that were grabbing my shirt and tearing it. i may have dropped my skateboard or still held it in my free hand or he may have taken it and i was trying to get it back, i don't remember too clearly, but what i do remember is trying to get free from this man who had me completely confused as to why he was so mad. i must have squeezed his arm pretty hard because when he FINALLY let go he had a humongous bruise across the top of his forearm. and somehow his other arm was bleeding. i had no idea how he started bleeding, i must have scraped him with my board or something. anyway, after i got free i started skating away when one of the kids i was with old me "hey, we can't just leave chris!". while i was skating away the same man that attacked me had grabbed chris by the wrist in one hand and held his skateboard in the other. i went back with one of the kids to try to save him, but the old man was drunk and i couldn't reason with him. you could smell the liquor on him. i kept asking what we had done wrong and to please let chris go and we'll never ever come back. i kept pleading with him but he would avoid my questions by asking me how old i was and my name. i didn't tell him either but he somehow found out that i was 17 and my name's tommy. he also said that i attacked him with my skateboard when HE STARTED IT!! he said over and over that he was pressing charges for ***ault and that i'm going to jail. all this time he wouldn't let go of chris. since the police were coming they'd arrest me because the drunk old man said i ***aulted him. on top of that we were tresp***ing, AND this place had a long history of skateboarders tressp***ing. so i asked chris if he was going to be okay, he said yea, so i left and parked my truck farther away and walked back to the group i was with who were waiting in the parking lot of a nearby bank. we called parents, they went into the complex and talked to the police and stuff, an now there's going to be a police car patrolling everyday there, and if there's no police and somebody even steps foot into the apartment complex they call on a direct line to the police and without warning the police will come and arrest anyone they find. after about a half hour of waiting and being talked to by our parents we found out that chris had apologized and was already home. we also found out that the police were looking for a tall brown haired 17 year-old named tommy. good thing i can use my first name James that's on my driver's license. so now i have to lay low and stay away from all the local skate spots, and on top of that i can't drive anywhere to skate for two weeks unless my mom or dad is with me. oh well, it's for the better. my parents don't want me to get arrested and i don't either.
what i found out from this whole fiasco is that:
1)old people bruise and bleed easily
2)to find out first if the place is a bust before i skate there (or set foot in the place).
3)never skate in retirement home communities because the residents are old people that have absolutely nothing to do except bust skateboarders and drink alcohol.
4)skateboarders that are mean and disrespectful toward adults add to the stereotype that "all skateboarders are belligerent punks that always destroy things with their four little wheels."
if you're ever flagged down for skating where you weren't supposed to PLEASE be polite and respectful to whoever you're talking to. even if the're mean and nasty toward you. this will help to end stereotypes against skateboarders and make the future easier for the skaters that come along in the future.
i hope people pay attention to what i have to say, i'm not asking for much.
