If you're standing in front of something light, and you and the camera are not actually in the light, it makes it dark. So, stay in the light, face away from the light, or some cameras have a "backlight" feature that makes stuff in front of the light more visible.

a blacklight and a backlight are two different things, lol. a blacklight makes white things glow, and a backlight corrects light issues in cameras.
