Yeah, don't think about the people around you. Just have fun and concentrate on skating. If you screw up a trick, just shrug it off and keep going.

For extra stylin' points take your board in your hand, throw it under your feet and hop on it. It looks impressive.

an old school? trust me man, dont do old school's in a competition! im gona go in one in a few months too! im gona screw up though and come dead alst or something:( i dont get nervous in front of people when im doing something all by myself but if its too quiet im gona freak out! i hate when its too quiet... when i come onto ramprage or go on masn or something, i turn the TV on even though i dont pay atention to it just so that its not quiet. its on right now and im listening to a mixed CD too.
just do what i do and block out everything eccept the park.... the judges and audience and sidelines dont exist. pretend your skating by yourself in a park with nobody around.
theres this kid i know and he was in the competition last year, he got nervous cus it was like completely silent and everyone was watching him and he messed up everything. and i know that he was way better than the other people... the guy who got first only one cus he landed a boardslide, and trust me it was sloppy as hell

oh yeah, in the 6 months i bet you could learn some good freestylin! im doing my freestyle stuff at the competition to get good points for it. heres my combo... flip the board into primo, lift it up onto its tail, take the front foot off, hold it for a second or 2, pull the foot back and kick the board out and land it. im getting better at it and maybe by the summer i can get even better.
when your doing your run, just dont think like "omg im gona win, i was doing way better thatn thsoe other guys!" and dont think "ah crap that was horrible! i scuk so bad, i should just end my run right now!" cus those 2 things will screw you up so bad. its not good to be over-estimate, or under-estimate.... anyways im gona go skate now. hope i helped ya. oh yeah one more thing! (most competitions play music, ask them to play music during your run so that its not silent, it screws everyone up, and it will make me freak out. lol im scared of really quiet places, and open spaces...)

i dont live in america. i live in canda... prince edward island.... pei sucks for skating! we have 2 skateparks on the island! the closest one to me is a 40minute drive. when me and my friends went there once it was closed so we had to drive ALL the way over to the other park... it was closed to.. so we had to drive all the way back home!!!
and the competition that came here was the beast of the east. they probably didnt even wanna come to PEI... the ramps they brought with them(since charlottetown doesnt have a park...) were all trashed up and stuff. the funbox would have been in good condition maybe... 23 years ago!!!
