Hi, I just started skating today and it is harder than it looks! Could you help me with these problems?:

1) How do I stand on the board? ( I ride with my left leg in front ) Do my toes face right or left?

2) I found that I generate no speed when I push and often the I fall back.

3) how do you brake?
Your help is much appreciated, Brad

well u wanna have your left shoulder facing the way your going and when your pushing keep your weight forward and bend your leg on the board slighty. when braking you could try just putting your foot down to stop and eventually u will find a way that feels comfortable i guess

also you could get a beginners book or the tony hawk trick tip volume 1. (ya i forgot that)

1) they face right. if u have your left foot on the top and your right on the back. that stance is clled regular and if your left foot is on the bttom and your right at top, thats called goofy. im goffy :P

2) Check which foot you are most comfortable with pushing and when you find that out. Put you opposite foot (Not the foot that your pushing pushing with planted in the middle and not on the tail

and

3)you can brake be either just coming of the board and stopping it with your foot hold the tail and let it drag along the ground, but i prefer just going off

Hope that helps

1) KickTheFlip pretty much cover that. Left foot forward, right foot on the tail. Left should be near the middle or closer to the front screws depending on your comfort. Toes point out. EX:
_______
(_m___m) <--top view of board

Make sure you keep your knees slightly bent.

2)Just keep your left foot on the board and use your right foot to push off with. Kind of turn your left foot straight and push off with your right foot on the right side of the board. Then when you stop pushing, turn your left foot back in the riding position and place your right foot back on the board. EX:
________
(_m____m) <----riding position

_____ <<||
(_<<||____) <---- left foot pointed to front while right pushes off

Lean on left foot
________
(_m____m) <-----put feet back in riding position and ride

3) Braking can be tricky but is very easy. Most people just lean back on the tail and it pushes the tail to the ground and stops it. Just put all your weight on the tail and let the front come up. You will get what I mean when you try it. Otherwise, you can just bail (get off the board).

Hope I helped, ask if you need more.

There are a lot of ways to brake yo. You can do a lil powerslide and that slows you down and makes you look good, hehe. But I dont do it often, I usually just take my backfoot off and slide it along the ground. Or hang my backfoot off with the heel hanging off the tail and lean back and let my heel stop me. DO NOT just drag the tail on the ground. After awhile you'll get crazy razor tail and that leaves you mad open for chips, cracks, and even f*cking the whole tail just crackin off one day...

yeah. try doing a quick pivot, like a 180 kickturn, but fast, so you stop. that makes you look cool, if u do it fast. i can do them one footed too, with kjust my back foot on the tail, its hard tho like thatp, one footed
