I am designing a ramp for my backyard, and I am not sure the best way to figure out how much flat to plan for. Too much and you loose momentum, but too short and you are going to fast. I am building an 8' half using a 9' transition. This will put the deck on my one foot tombstones(extensions for the newbies) at the point of vert. I was thinking of putting in 16' of flat, but when I look at the plans, that just seems way to long. Any suggestions, or is there a formula to use to figure this out? Please let me know, I am anxiously awaiting my new ramp.

I would say 12'-14' would be a good flat. You could build the transistions before the flat and space them out to 14, 16, and 18 feet to see the sizes.

So you think 12 - 14? Wouldn't 12 foot be cutting it close? I would think that would be too quick.

It's your ramp, do what you want. You're probably right, though.

You could buy one of those if you're really desperate. Otherwise, you gotta wait a little while.
