ever heard of getting shoes with lace guards on them? You could also try something I did. Wherever the shoe lace tends to rip... wrap that area about 4 times around with duct tape or electrical tape. Hell, try both. It will help your laces last a bit longer.

some shoes have an some shoes dont. its just a matter of whether or not the lace is exposed where it goes through the hole.

Yeah I might as well do that I mean what will it hurt? laces are only there to keep your foot in the shoe.

tie ur laces properly or tuck them into the side of ur shoe, it means they cant get caught and torn

Shoe-Goo over the lace loops, or where ever the laces rip. It tears off and you can put it on as you need. Plus it doesn't give that ''special'' look, but lace protectors help. --later--

Duct tape works. My Globes' toes are completely covered in duct tape, 'cause duct tape fixes everything.

Dude forget the laces. Go to Harbor Freight or Home Depot and buy a bag of plastic electrical zip ties. You can buy a bag of variety colors or just black. Run the ties from one shoelace tie across to the other and tighten it to the desired tension then cut off the excess work up to the next set of eyes and so on if you leave the bottom ones a little loose you cankeep them when you take off your shoes just cut the top three or four and replace them with new ones when you put your shoes on again. You can get a bag of 300 for $8.00 snd they look cool!

Zip ties would destroy your griptape.

when i used to care about ripping laces (i dont anymore) i wrapped that little area with a piece of duct tape maybe a cm wide, about 2 times, and it really helped.

but.. now if i rip laces, i just tie them up for the rest of the day with the two newly ripped ends, and maybe leave it like that if i dont feel like changing the laces. or i change them when i get home cause i have TONS of laces.

My laces break a lot. Duck taping them sounds good though.

I go through laces really fast. (knee slides) I just keep spares with my gear, laces are cheap.

I've got the same problem, thats why i got the Nike Zoom air tres from my shop, 50% off good deal so I had to try em. Anyway, on normal shoes every serious session they'd rip and i'd have to get a new pair. I guess I just need to skate switch more loll.

what i do is get this leather flap and triple stitch it to the top of my shoe in a place were it dont rip.

OK, check this out. I've posted alot of session pics with my buddie Frank included. Well he was going through shoelaces like crazy so he set out to find the perfect shoe lace with no success. So he found this awesome material and started making his own. He set up a site as a joke and well, people took it seriously and now he has a Shoelace Company. They work really good and last along time. He also designed a lace protector that attaches to the laces at the tongue. Look at his site as it's done comically but is now real. I wear the laces, infact I sent Dan (FIGHT) a couple pairs to try. Our buddie Franks (Oldkook) site is www.oldkook.com
Hey mods, if it's not cool putting his site up, don't sweat it and delete this post.

I like the shoe laces that come with Es Accels. They last very long and the shoes come with two pairs.

Yea I have two different colored shoelaces, (both DVS). The white fat and flat lace is fine, but the blue round one is starting to rip. Maybe I'll try that duct tape idea...

even though this topic was 2 years old...
On my shoelaces i use silicon which lasts better than shoe goo. Believe me, but it takes a day to dry.

I don't want this to seem like spam, but I had been having the same problem for years. I finally came up with a couple solutions: better shoelaces and also shoe lace protectors. After a while, people suggested that I market them, so I have started to do just that. I've tried to keep the prices affordable, but keep in mind that I am making these things by hand in my garage, which takes some time and effort.

Anyway, if you do blow through a lot of laces, please take a look at my site, here: http://www.oldkook.com

Thanks for looking!

I change my laces when they break, hehe....

Laces tend to break when their too tight, so just keep your laces moderatly loose and theyll last.
