Why is it whenever I mention ANYTHING about rap, it could be about f*cking what type of hat a rapper was wearing in a video, some white a**hole has to voice his opinion.
"Rap isn't really music, all it is is talking to a computer about guns, *****es, drugs, jewelry and cars. I'm such a f*cking idiot, I don't know a god dam thing about rap because I've only heard the stuff they play on the radio. All my life I've been a ignorant dickhead who has grown up listening to the classics...The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix and such that as soon as I hear something different I get this weird feeling inside that I just have to offend millions of people who have grown up with rap as apart of their lives. Even I could make a rap if I wanted to, but I won't because that would harm my insecure manhood and make me look like an open-minded individual and not a stuck up prejudice whore."
Lemme say this, when it comes to music, I'm probably the wierdest guy ever. I listen to literally every type of music(cept for maybe country and pop, and only a few punk songs). I mean if I wanted to I could talk shit about 'your' type of music as well.
"Punk music is a bunch of retards with instruments screaming and trying too hard to be wierd and unique."
"Death metal is a bunch of demented motherf*ckers who were molested as children and have never loved and love the fact that they are 'in touch' with the darkside"
"Reggae is just a bunch of burn-out jamaicans with a few backyard drums and a microphone singing about how f*cked up the white man is and why they deserve better than them."
*Don't take the qoutes seriously
I mean I'll stop but you see, the shit goes both ways. As a kid my dad always had Pink Floyd, The Doors, or Jimi Hendrix playing in the house, I loved it then and I still do. When I was about ten I questioned why people like rap because it was so DIFFERENT from what I have been listening to. But being the open-minded dude I am I actually checked out what hip-hop was about and it is like a whole nother different culture, right next to me all my life and I never knew about it.
We all grew up with music, we all have the special bond with our favorite artists/genre of music and if someone disses on them we get mad and naturally defend them. So why the f*ck do you do it to me and the rap audience. Why is it that whenever I mention it some shithead has to explain to me why rap isn't music and why Metallica is god or some shit.
I'm all for hearing people out but when you try to change my beliefs and my interests I just f*cking blow up and wanna say shut the hell up and eat yourself. I'll add to this if people pay some attention to the post.

Well, I do not like Rap music, but i respect it, well the people who do it for real. Not the mainstreamers who forget why they started out you know? Maybe not but thats my opinon

But keep in mind if it wasn't for mainstream artists(any genre) then music would pretty much be dead.

I loved that post, TOOL. I'm just like you, I listen to just about everything, except I also listen to punk and reggae. People who hate rap just can't seem to understand just how much hip-hop has influenced whatever they listen to. They need to get their heads out of their asses.

I'm not a hardcore reggae or punk fan but I can atleast respect it enough. I mean Bob Marley is one of the greatest musicians to ever live and I like some punk bands. I don't really want to list any because mainly it's the punk people who seem to take this music thing to far. When I say that I mean by saying what's punk and what's not and how I'm a ***** this and that.

Oh just thought I'd add a nice Duke Ellington quote:
"There's only two types of music, Good and Bad."
And I think that is my philosophy on the matter.

i'm not a huge rap and hip hop fan but i still listen to some of it. I grew up on country and george thorogood. like T O O L when i was 10 i questioned y people liked other music and being open minded came in handy and i found classic rock and and some modern rock i liked and with more time i came to like reggae and blues. when u really think about it all music is tied together in some way. like country helped bring the guitar into music to help make rock. reggae brought up drums to help bring in hip hop. so in some way all music is tied together.

TOOL, I completely agree. You idiot wanna be punk rock kids are the worse about rap too. Just the pther day Andrew, I was talking to that kid you knew named Andrew (ironic, huh?), and we were talking about punk, and I mention liking rap, and he goes crazy like an idiot. Just because it's something different than it, doesn't mean it's bad. I hate that whole "I have to rebel against everything and anything that isn't punk" Get over it, there's more in the world than punk.
Sorry, just had to get that little ramble out. But TOOL, you share my philosophy, or to an extent. I just listen to whatever I sounds good to me, and don't listen to what sounds bad to me. Pretty simple.

i dont like rap, but i still respect it. You carnt just hate one sector of music because all music is based around the same concepts, group of talented dudes playing instruments and 'singing'. So hating rap is like hating rock.

I'm glad you didn't say "your friend". That guy used to be my friend, but he is a complete idiot. He cheated on one of my best friends, is close-minded, is an asshole, and I plain out dislike him. And I agree, "punks" do that. I've just recently told Chris, who's a "punk", that punk is dead, and he agreed. His mind is beoming less and less close-minded by the day.

I totally agree. I listen to whatever sounds good to me I don't care if it's pop or rap or metal or whatever. I like rap the most and I have always had a respect for it.

rap is a part of every music, loads of nu-metal bands use rap in there songs not proper rap like Tupac and stuff but they do use it.
EDIT: wot i hate is half the kids who think they are 'punk' skaters dont even no wot punk is, punk isnt Blink 182 or sum 41, punk is the sex pistols and stuff like that, punks dont wear baggy trousers they wear tight jeans, punks wear blazer things and stuff

We, the people who listen to like everything, need a label for ourselves, because if I have to be labeled, I at least want a name that actually describes me.

Well I hope you're kidding me right here young man....cuz half the rap beats are taken from progrock songs from the '70s.......I can bet all the rap songs where you like the beat or the "guitar" is taken from an older song. Can't argue with that....and that's why I just hate rap....

And rock was taken from black jazz bands even earlier than them. Should I 'hate' rock now too? You sure have a f*cked up reason to hate a part of music that hasn't directly done a dam thing to you.

rock wasnt TAKEN from black jazz bands, it was INSPIRED from...wich is totally different....rap "artists" actually take samples from the '70s music and use it in their songs......and for that "****ed up reason to hate a part of music....."...I'm not like most people that say they hate a kind of music just because their friends do, I actually have taken time to listen and read the lyrics of a lot of rap songs, and I totally disagree with the message that those people are trying to make...smoking/taking drugs, women=objects, money=god....all those things just piss me off...

So you're saying rock songs ALL have a good message? There are some f*cked up rock songs out there too so don't say ALL rap is about *****es, money, cars and drugs. There are good rap songs too, that have a positive message. Turn the 50 Cent and Ja Rule off your radio and listen to the good shit. Rap producers sample old shit because they like it, they probably grew up on it too you'd be surprised. Are you forgetting we live in a material world? To some money is god, without money you can't eat or anything. So when a dude comin from the ghetto starts making money of course he's gonna splurge.
P.S. If you think smoking/taking drugs shouldn't be in music...lmao I just have to laugh.

Actually rock and roll wasnt taken or inspired by jazz. It was blues...there is a difference in the music ya know.
Rock-and-Roll (räk'n roll') n. first so used (1951) by Alan Freed, Cleveland disc jockey, taken from the song "My Baby Rocks Me with a Steady Roll". The use of rock, roll, rock and roll, etc., with reference to sexual intercourse, is traditional in blues, a form of popular music that evolved in the 1950's from rhythm and blues, characterized by the use of electric guitars, a strong rhythm with an accent on the offbeat, and youth-oriented lyrics
