do any of you remember that motorized longboard in the sublime music video? i think it was the "what i got" vid. anyway, i've looked everywhere for one of them and i can't find jack #@$%. i've seen all these big clunky 2-strokers....but that isn't what i'm lookin for. i want just a normal longboard with a little engine on the back.....i'll try to get a pick from the video to show you all a little more clearly. any help would be kick arse.... thanks

I'm not sure. I'll keep an eye out for one. If there's not any out there, best bet would be fabricating one. Man, that would be fun. I love custom projects..so that's something appealing. Hey- I might just try that :) (I'm serious...)

By the way..welcome to the boards. Do you plan on sticking around?

well of course i'll stick around:-2:. yeah, first thing i thought was, "man, this would be such a fun project!" but i don't have the means to fabricate it:-11:. doesn't seem like it'd be to hard to do.....btw, do any of you remember the sublime video i'm talkin bout? i'm about 99% sure it was in the "what i got" vid. if anyone comes up with some plans, you should definately post em. thx for everything peeps....have skating:D

The only problem I would see..is it seems like the rear truck would almost have to be completely rebuilt..with a sprocket on it...to run to some kind of small motor via chain. THAT sounds like a pain in the azz..

C'mon people...get in on this. I haven't seen the video before..

have you tryed asking around on www.bobstricktips.com and then going onto the forums and asking there....they might know

Dude that would be SO bad a**. But I know I'd ditch it for my regular board if I had it for keeps. Would be fun to ride on every now and then tho.

Heck yeah. Imagine the looks you'd get as you flew around...with a motor...

yeah, i know the video, i love sublime... pun shop is a greaaaat song... that would probably be not too hard, if you have a little engine, you could probably take it apart, clean it, and put new plugs in it. but if you dont even have the means for that, you could just find a crummy one, and throw a either propeller on the crankshaft, or some propulsion system for the back wheels, although front wheel drive may be easier to controll. it might be hard to do that like propulsion for the wheels on it. hmmm

Unless this motorized longboard is going to see water action- I would not put a propellar on it!!! :)

I'm fairly sure front wheel drive would be harder to control if anything. To mount it and make it front wheel drive, you would have to place the engine on the front, too...weight distribution would suck.

Sure, it's not a serious thing, but I would place my money on the RWD one! As I said, it'd be a fun project, but fabricating that rear truck (or front truck, in zeronoah's idea), would be a pain...it makes my head hurt thinking about it

ive seen one online, it wasnt a longboaerd, it was an oldschool fishtail board, and was 700$. ill try to find the link. what you would need to do is attack sprockets to each rear wheel ont he outside of the wheel (really, youd have to build it as part of the wheell, so unless you hjave a urethane factory, you cant really do it, but do that, and then have an engine with two sprockets, attach a chain to each side and it might wqork

A lawnmower spins the blade horizontally...wheels spin vertically...so there may be an issue there. Probably would have to mount it sideways...or use an extensive set of chains, gears and pulley's!!

Or, if you fab'd your own truck..you could have the back axle be one piece..have a single sprocket on it..and voila, both wheels would spin. You'd need a engine with really good torque, too. You could possibly use wheelchair motors...fairly cheap, electric..and awesome torque. I bet it'd be pretty quick too..

but a lawnmower engine is what they usually use on gopeds, and they have vertically spinning wheels

But those engines come ON the go-ped already. Try taking a lawnmower engine straight from a mower, to put onto a goped..it'd be tough.

Until now, I've been also talking about a push mower. The motor on a riding mower (to power the wheels) would be good....

Go ped engines: http://www.davesmotors.com/store/engines.html

They look similar in ways, but for the most part look completely different from an engine pulled from a lawnmower you would get from a junkyard or such..

could look on ebay, theyve got some weird stuff, you could make it awd with big gigantic tires on it like a subaru! heh, the only reason id have fwd would be because it might be a big easier to steer? im not sure though, or just having it right on the tail, and having something about the same approximate weight on the front end like under the nose to counterbalance.

Mrock

Well, FWD would be easier, but I believe only if you made it so the two front tires rotated...see what I mean?

Someone should really consider this project. When I get a new job I might give it a shot, but that's gonna be a while...

yeah, i see what ur talkin about, i didnt mean that only 1 front wheel moved, that would be weird. lol

Mrock

I didn't either. I just mean that you could have it be FWD, but with the front wheels locked (like a normal skateboard)...that wouldn't make any sense. I was just sayin' you'd have to make it so they could steer very easily for it to make sense. It'd be pretty complex...but sweet!!!
