Zine idea.

hey fellow skaters.
two friends and i have been seriously contemplating starting up a small zine all about skating, music, and opinions on everyday things. does this sound like maybe a cool idea? and i have some questions on what we could use to put some pictures in there, (ie. trick sequences, ramp ideas, etc.) my friend suggested i buy a motor onto a camera you know like to get nice looking sequences, but i have like a "handycam" thing like with the little pop out screen, and an older but nice camera, not digital but like focusy thing its an "Olympic". and the handycam is a "Sony". so id like to hear some suggestions, ideas, questions, and comments from you ladies and gentlemen. anything would be cool.

You won't be shooting any sequences on your Olympus that's for sure. You also won't be happy with the quality of putting video footage in your magazine. How do you plan to assemble this magazine? Quark software like the Transworld and other big mags are using? Or are you going to cut and paste scrapbook style and then photocopy it?

do it up like an old punk fanzine.....very raw...blackandwhite. Have like a trick of the month section...maybe spotlight a couple of skaters..Reviews on equipment, spots, vids stuff like that...Weird or horrific skate tales...like a there I was article. band or cd reviews. links, maybe some home made build stuff. Skatechick section. Joke page maybe...shoot me an email if ya want more ideas or help. I could help ya out with the European scene.

yeah, me and my two friends are planning on doing it like old punk fanzine like you said, like razorcake. were into old punk rock, dead kennedys, spirit, mc5, bad brains, stuff like that. you gave me some sweet ideas. thanks for the replys dudes.

Yea. Do a lot of music. New age and old. I'd just make them, but sell them locally in your town and see how it goes. Then spread around

yeah, neither of us are like super great skaters lol so its a fun way of getting into it. theres me (noah) daddio (steven last name is d'addio) and rob, rob has been skating since he was 10, hes just about to turn 18. but he cant kickflip, its only really because hes kind of a hesh skater. and he doesnt have enough patience to sit there and try to k-flip all the time. daddio has been skatin for like 2 years, hes pretty ok, nothin great but hes not bad, better than me. and ive only been skating since late october, but i hear im progressing really fast. we just want to make a zine so we can share our thoughts on skating, skaters, people, music, and stuff like that.

u could have us send in a picture of us skating. that would solve problems of trying to find pictures. u could ramprage skater of the month. or little contests to win like a spot in the magazine of they answer a question right.

yeah, it would be neat to hand out free stuff like shirts but that requires money, and maybe that would be thinking too far down the road.

You better have a fair bit of money to back it... how much are you charging per issue? What's your circulation rate going to be? Are you paying your photographers? How much content do you have lined up? Is it a monthly publication, bi-monthly?

arite, we are gonna basically wing this deal for a while, like we do all the writing, photographing, and shit like that. basically so we dont have to pay abunch of people, circulation rate? and were just gonna put what we think should be in an issue and put it out, no restriction, this aint gonna be like a real proper zine like transworld where it comes out every so often, with the same pages and whatnot. really raw

thats pretty good , i was gonna make a zine but i'm lazy and can only just manage to get round to filming for my skate video not to mention filming for a zine or taking photos
