View Full Version : Any way to "make" artificial snow?

Where I live there's rarely any snow at any times except for the mountains. I want to set up my rail on my slanted driveway, and have a small patch of snow leading to the rail, and a small patch at the end to stop. Is there any way to try to recreate snow with ice or something? thanks.

ROFL thast funny man, well yeah theres ways all the big snow making machines take giant block of ice and basicaly shave the ice down thus creating "Snow" but thats big machinery there, so I'm really clueless.

Yeah I got the idea seeing all the snowboard videos where there's barely any snow on the ground but they still have a small patch to ride onto. Maybe I could use a big crushed bag of ice when it gets cold at night. :D

go hit up your local hockey rink with someone who drives a pickup truck. theres always snow dumped outside from the zamboni that im sure the owners wouldnt mind if you yanks a few truckloads.

Yeah skateboarding is ok but I still suck at it. Maybe I can find a way to strap in bindings to my skateboard.

yeah we have some rail sessions in summer using the snow dumpet outside arenas....go there with a pickup truck and take as much as you can, it should last for a couple of hours, depending on the temperature...

they dont lift up that much snow off the ice, maybe like a shoprite bag full at the most , i worked at a skating/hockey rink, we had a big zamboni with flames on the side, it was cool, i always wanted to drive it to like wendy's and be like "let me get a junior bacon...."

hmm, that sounds kinda fun, but wouldnt the falls onto cement hurt like hell? i mean, snowboarding you fall into snow, and at worst its icy and you might get a little scraped up.
skateboarding, if my feet were straped in, id be afraid that id break a wrist or my neck!

There's some kind of plastic you can use, call Home Depot and ask for a sheet of "low-friction" plastic. It'll be dirt cheap, but won't hold up to your edges, so be careful. Crushed ice also works, you can buy it in bulk at the grocery store or make your own (time consuming, and only really enough for one short session).
The oldest trick in the snowboard-during-summer book is the portable launch tower. A folding ladder, and a simple ramp made out of lumber will get you going with enough speed to Ollie onto most low handrails.
Past that, you need a big hockey rink, or a big and friendly/cheap ice-maker. All those handrail videos are done during not-too-warm weather, and the sponsor pays for the snowmaking car.

Yeah banana knows where its at. We had about 10 people over at my friend's house tonight and had a big session with ice rink snow. Me and 3 others skied and 6 boarded. We had a 21 foot battleship rail(up-flat-down) (nutable on skis), 12 foot S rail, 16 foot flat box, 16 foot double barrel rail, and a 16 foot flat-down-flat. It went down nice but one of the boarders caught major front edge on the battleship and sliced his head open. He had to get stitches. Other than that it was flowing. A 270 on switch up 270 out on the box by skiers and boarders a 270 on switch out for best trick of the night. The kid whos house it was at got a butter on the box which was cool, and a opposite 270 out of the S. I ended the night good with a 270 onto the box and switch butter 270 out. It was one of the best sessions since last winter. Ice rink snow works better than anything else! We have tried carpet, plastic, all kinds of stuff but nothing is as fast as...snow.
