Photos from a recent gig that I finally finished scanning and resizing for web use.

Details:
Nikon F4s
Nikon 50mm f1.8
Kodak TMAX400 developed in D-76
Vivitar 285hv @ 1/16 power.

The shots were either at 1/8 or 1/250 with a f-stop between 1.8 and 16.

Nice shots mike! I've never used a flash with a manual camera before.
I'm assuming Vivitar 285hv is the flash you used with it right?
Any reason for such a low f-stop with the shots?

probably low light... it's usually pretty dark at gigs + it allowed him to get a short DOF which seperates the focal object from the background elements which if were in focus could cause a cluttered and busy image

The light was terrible at the gig. Spot meter readings to expose correctly for skin tones was about... 1/8 @ f1.8 on 400 ISO film. That 1/8 was not going to give me any freezing in the peoples faces and expressions so I had to use flash (the vivitar 285hv).

I used the f1.8 because it gave me a short enough shutter speed that things weren't rediculously blurry and out of focus. One of the band members complained to me about those type of shots before the gig, it was quite funny. I also kept shallow DOF in mind because the stage was all of 30 feet across and I wanted to avoid having other band members in the backgrounds.

It was a gig my friend made for local bands. It never really had a name but was held at Mole Hall in West Molesy. There were 6 local bands on the list that night.

In Germany? Are you kidding me? I can tell you the photographers from Germany. Most hang out at www.skateboardphotography.com . Theres Bastian Ehl, Christoph Leib, Eric Mirbach and Ingo Schaeder. They all shoot for the big German mags and worldwide stuff. Most have stuff in playboard and kingpin, especially Bastian. Actually they all kill me at photo skills. Go check out their stuff.
