miniDV. Don't even try it with a digital camera and Hi8 is a pain in the ass. Use eBay.

#1 - No question. All of the pro filmers were using them. Just be hopeful that your ribbon cable doesn't snap on the viewfinder. If it does.. I will buy the cam off you for $50 and replace the cable myself... haha. Most pros are using that cam, the VX2000, or the GL2. GET IT.. you won't regret it. And be sure to buy a century fisheye.

I suppose so... go figure I film with a Sony 1 chipper. Oh well, I'm sure my videos can stand up to kids whos parents buy them a big cam to walk around with.

A century fisheye and more batteries because it goes through them damn quick. Wideangles are weak.

i might get the first one but i am not all that good so i am not sure i really need a good camcorder. i dont plan on making movies that much so i might go with the style of #2 but get a little more expensive one.

damn.... i got a hardcore 8mm camera and a Gaynox clip on fisheye. the footage turns out pretty good. the viewfinder is broken so i can't see what i'm filming, which is cool. it also chews tapes up a lot too

the vx1000 auction looks sketchy to me, i mean, look!
start price $850 no reserve
Feedback score: 0
at least with the 2nd one you're getting something from a respected dealer.

Usage has been moderate and maintennance has been regular (every 2 years). The *auto exposure feature* in the lens DOES NOT WORK in auto mode, but does work in manual over-ride mode. Estimated repair costs are about $600, according to Sony. Internal batteries are a little weak, but still have about 50-75% juice.
That would be why it is so cheap. Most VX1000s go for about a grand on ebay anyways so that makes sense to me. The guy being from brooklyn NYC sort of freaks me out aswell as the 0 feedback. The bonus is that he accepts paypal with the credit cards so you can always get your money back if he ****s you. To be safe, email the seller and ask for more pics. Specify something unusual... or ask him to take a shot of the cam sitting on a newspaper with todays date on it. Thats a surefire way to know its all good.

it looks legit. pretty cheap for only 16 hours left. i got mine for 986. the pay pal is a good thing. but if you do try for it see if he will accept escrow. it is much more safer. if you dont know or never heard of escrow what happens is that the seller and buyer agree to a inspection period. the seller sends the item once he looks on escrow to see if the buyer sent escrow the money. the buyer gets the item and once he recieves it he contacts escrow. escrow then wires the money too the seller. its quite safe. o and like mike said if you can dish the money out unlike me buy a century. if you have the money for a mk1 which is ooooo say 789? maybe?
