i work in the television industry and i edit on 600,000 dollar machines apptly made by the leading corporation in all video editing especially the professional region the company name would be "AVID technology" they create editing system that are used to edit just about every single major motion movie picture including major skate videos ...

just a taste of what avid has been used for :

the movie gladiator was made with avid
the movie "titanic" was made and edited with the avid system
the movie "roadtrip" was edited on a avid system
the movie "Terminator 1,2,& 3" were edited on the avid

now besides working with only the best in the industry .. ive used thousands of diff programs and the ones at the top of my recommendation list are :

Final cut Pro HD or Final Cut pro 3 >> Extremly userfreindly ...
especially compared to an avid system

Adobe affter effects is a 3d Compositing program .. it is not made to edit a movie .. only to add professional effect to a series of video clips ..

Now if your really begining i'd recomend using what i used .. i started out with a pc editing on a prgram called "dazzle" and after "dazzle" i edited on my first mac using "imovie" and i have to say making the transition from a pc to a mac changed the way i edit .. and i now have made a career out of it .. i love editing .. :D and still make my own little skate videos when i have time .. id recommend you stick with imovie and then move up to Final cut express 2 which is only 200 bucks and will teach you the basics of final cut pro 4 and you can then move up to final cut pro 4 when you get good enough ... :D

I don't know what system you are talking about that is $600,000 unless it is the full studio setups with real-time broadcast mixing boards and stuff. Avid Xpress DV is pretty damn good and I use it often. Oh right, I got it for free because my good mates dad works at Avid UK... haha, free dongles for all!!

wow .. that is a good score .... Free dongles eh ?

Yes Mikej i work in a full on full studio setup .. since u seem to know a bit about avid .. then you'd recognize the name of our system if i told you ..

i edit on a Avid DS Nitris System ...

It has like the ultimate color corection system built in, i also attended N.A.B 2004 which stands for the National Association of Broadcasters and attended Avid University there,,, If u ever can goto N.A.B 2005 You can get free editing clases there from AVID

Ahh mate that sounds like the nuts. Don't worry I certainly know my avid and I know that they are known internationally for their superior color correcting stuff, even in their lower end models which are still expensive... can't say as I have ever tried the Nitris System. My best made, who's dad works at Avid, he teaches some of those free editing classes at trade shows and gets paid for it.

yall should learn sum avid ... so you all can go pro one day and become full on editors like me :D you can goto avid.com and get a Free version of avid xpress dv called "AVID FREE DV"

Freaky Styley

Can you tell me what you dont get with the free version? or is it just free to use for a specified period of time?

well .. compared to avid xpress DV basically it's the same thing as avid xpress dv only u r only allowed 2 Tracks of video and 4 Tracks of Audio . thats what they limit you to .. and i think they took Real Time Rendering away so u have to render all your effects... But it's definetly the best thing out there if you wanna learn the Avid Layout cause Avid Xpress DV compared to final cut pro is kinda the same thing only Avid isnt so much a User freindly program so it takes a bit more to learn Avid then it does Final Cut

I'm using window movie maker. its very basic, but very easy to use. Ulead is good as well, cos i have that. But WMM is better because every trick is automatically broken down into clips. then you just put the bits you want on the time line. very easy.

mikejl29
05-08-2004, 10:41 AM
Yeah.. WMM will be fine for drag and drop single track editing. Hell, you even get some cheasy effects and a titler, can't complain about that. If you ever want multiple tracks or some decent effects you are going to have to step it up to something more advanced like Vegas Video 4, Premiere 6/7, FCP 4, or even Avid.

two video tracks just wont due...need atleast 6...I used as many as 9 for killnilz.

Skatepro.net
05-11-2004, 10:22 PM
wow 9 video tracks for a skate video ... I'd liek to see that video .. anyways you can makea web version so i can see it or is there a way u can copy it and ship it out ?

Skatepro.net

i usually use around 12 video tracks for almost any video i make because im so into neat effect and what not .. my last video i actually didnt get to crazy with it and i only used about 6 tracks .. but when i start using effects and what not for my videos the highest i have gone is 12 track of video and 24 tracks of Audio .. leep in mind that video wasnt a skate video but was a actuall independent film i made .. so thats why it was so many track ..

I started out using iMovie at college and moved onto FCP3 pretty quickly and I love it... Tried to use Avid Xpress the other day at a lecture and it just didn't feel right. Obviously I've been trained into using FCP so other stuff wont look right, but FCP is just sooo much more user friendly than the others I've used... Dunno when I'll get to move onto FCP4 though, finishing college soon and dont have a Mac!

AVID_Editer
05-31-2004, 09:39 AM
yes it is much more user friendly but there is a huge difference ... AVID is so much better in millions of ways .. you need to discover those for yourself though .. i have already .. I love FCP but i have to say that ANY AVID software BLOWS FCP away ... You gotta go to school to learn avid really well .. not neccesarily College bu you can pay 1,200 Dolars a day to be trined on a AVID system .. my work sends me to be trained once a year for a whole week so i can constantly know al the neat tricks and be more efficient on the system ..

I do like the look of avid, but I dont want to put down 15 benny franks for it. and the free version doesnt give me enough capes to be flexible.....vegas5 is coming out soon so I will probably give that a spin.
But avid does look da shit. Read a good article on it and the mojo...looks juicy! But vegas isnt dragging it in the dirt either.

You dont need ot pay $1,500 for Avid Xpress DV

You can buy Avid Xpress Dv/Pro for only $299 Without Mojo if your a College Student

and you can also buy Avid Xpress DV/Pro at regular price for only 700 bucks ... Thats fairly cheap ... i dont have mojo and i haveto say that To me mojo doesnt make a huge difference .. it only makes a difference when your doing professioanl video and your using DVcam and HD cam for video where the quality is so high it needs ot be rendered and for that you can get mojo which will render it live for you .. Avid runs perfectly fine without mojo as long as you have a computer that is over 1 GHZ your fine and dont need mojo .. especially for a measely skate video ..

Thats kewl...only have 5 years to go till im in college...lol

AVID_Editer
06-04-2004, 06:30 AM
ok , i guess ... that seems to be a maturity issue of yours but thats your problem .. you can figure it out yourself ...

5 years till college .. your either in 8 th grade or 9 th grade ... long ways to go ..

Freaky Styley
06-04-2004, 03:35 PM
yeah 8th grade....maturity issue? about? enlighten me if ya will.

AVID_Editer
06-04-2004, 04:01 PM
Only the fast that your in 8th grade explains it all .. i need no explaination what so ever ..

Girls mature faster then boy .. so for example a girl in 8th grade would have the responsibility and mental thinking of a girl who's in 9th or 10th grade .. it's just proven by doctor's they're more responsible and grow up more maturely then boys .. so the fact that your in 8th and your not a girl means you have the maturity of a 8th grade person .. if your in 8th and you somewhere think your an adult then your thinking al ittle far ahead ... your an adult when you have graduated high school , are going to college or havea full time job , you skate as much as you can and your not some hobo living on the streets and your have your own place to live .. thats being mature to be considered an adult .. I'm nottryingto bring you down at all .. you said "Explain" so im merely "explaining" thats all .. just the way you worded your last post shows you can possibly understand what i meant about a maturity issue .. you said

"maturity issue?, About? , "Enlighten me if "YA" will ...."

well you can take this post as constructive critcism or you can take it the wrong way .. it's up to you .. no harm intended .. im older your younger thats just how it is ..

Well dude I did say please. Skate vids are not a thing I would consider measly...and I didnt appreciate the comment. And I thank you for not using the term or terms like it in the future.

Ciao

Fine ... eventually you will learn to not take little comments like that so serious .. i mean think about how petty the comment was and there is an arguement over it .. dont get mad about measely i coulda said something worse .. even though i too make skate videos of my own .. and originally the comment wasn't even directed towards you anyways ..
