I have a IEEE 1394 Cable Now WhaT?

ALRIGHT YALL, I JUST BOUGHT THE CABLE FROM EBAY AND ITS A iEEE 1394 FIREWIRE CABLE AND THE 4 PIN CONNECTORS FIT BUT WHERE DOES THE SIX PIN CONNECTOR GO. I HAVE A MINI DV CAMCORDER AND I AM GETTING THE IMPRESSION THAT I NEED ANOTHER PIECE OF EQUIPMENT TO TRANSFER FOOTAGE TO THE COMPUTER. Do you have the PCI Firewire card that is in the back of your computer? You stick the 6 pin into there, and the 4 pin into the camera. Then you open up an editing program (Premiere 6/7) and capture the footage.
